I do like Tony Robichaux though, he's a good dude
I will say this, UL-L is getting away with robbery. For how good a coach he is, and how long he's been there they are paying him peanuts in regards to how much he'd make somewhere else.

I'm not reading this thread but those umps were the worst I've ever seen

You mean Matt Deggs, not Tony !
quote:
Matt Deggs joined the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball coaching staff in March 2012. In 2013, Deggs’ first full season with the program, he helped orchestrate the largest turnaround in the NCAA as Louisiana increased its win total by 20 games from 2012 (23 to 43 wins).
Serving as the Cajuns’ hitting and third base coach – while also overseeing team personnel and recruiting – Deggs ran an offense that was widely considered the best in the NCAA Division I ranks in 2013.
After hitting just .263 with 18 home runs in 2012, the Cajuns exploded under Deggs’ direction in 2013. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Cajuns were ranked inside the Top 5 in the NCAA in eight offensive categories: home runs (72), home runs/per game (1.22), slugging percentage (.513), batting average (.323), total bases (1,066), hits (666), doubles (137) and runs (453). In addition the Cajuns dominated the offensive charts in Sun Belt Conference play. In the 10 major offensive categories the Cajuns ranked first in 8-of-10 including: batting average (.336), slugging percentage (.538), on-base percentage (.407), runs (234), hits (357), RBI (211), home runs (41) and total bases (572).

Slow roller to 3b who picks it up and throws to 1st. 1b stretches out and makes the play, 1st base umpire calls him out to end the inning. TxSt coach comes out to argue the call, umpires huddle and home plate ump says he pulled his foot.
Not sure there are many coaches who wouldn't have gotten tossed on that play

You should know that you can't control what a fan base says.
And I'm not going to read through because I don't need a lecture from LSU fans on class.

yeah i got the rundown of the play on the rant this morning. one of the posters went and watched the replay on espn3.
said whether he was truly out or not was hard to tell due to the laf fuzzy broadcast.
but the subsequent overturn was BS and the bump was pretty much nonexistent.

And that gets Tony so fired up that he bumps the ump and gets a 4 game suspension. Wasn't ULL already getting drilled at that point?

well hendo did you boo the home plate ump sunday without realizing it wasnt the same guy behind the plate?
i would hope you would be smarter than that.

The first base ump was in perfect position to make the call and made it emphatically.

quote:Coach Rob had his weekly coaches show last night. Jay Walker and the delusional fan base bitched from Sunday-Tuesday vehemently claiming that there was no contact at all after reviewing the play countless times on tivo.....Coach came out and admitted that there was very light, incidental contact(when he brought his hands up he "touched" the umps forearm). Also, he said that he had no respect for THAT particular ump and that he was in his 1st year in the league. When asked about why the situation calmed so quickly when the 1st base ump stepped in, he said "That's simple...I actually have respect for that ump. That's the difference little man vs. big man".
im trying to actually get to the bottom of this. from what i hear it was a bs call and robi didnt really even bump him.
He called the "flop" ump a small/little man like 3 times.
I like Robe, sounds like he got in a rookie umps head and the ump got butt hurt. From friends at the game, they said the fans prior to that call were yelling the "f" word and other foul obscenities at the ump. I'm sure the ump was just trying to send a message to the home crowd and coach. I had Cajun fans, in attendance, tell me that they were livid at their own fan base for the language being used in front of children on Saturday. Again, prior to call. SO, I tend to think this ump shite the bed pretty bad. Regardless, ump sounds like a douche and should never let emotions get in his head.

Apparently Tony admitted he bumped the ump. Rookie ump or not, Tony was way out of line, no matter how much Hendo and others want to rationalize things.

Hendo - You may not need a lecture from LSU fans, but take a lesson from the LSU baseball program. Nothing but class, and it all started with the Skipper, who said excuses weren't tolerated, and you had to be at least 3 runs better than any umpire's call.

he admits he ACCIDENTALLY bumped him. maybe that doesnt matter when it comes to a suspension or not, but it matters when judging him. Again i didnt watch the replay but others that did said there was no intent to bump.
The only part i dont get is they were getting blown out to begin with. So maybe that's why he was frustrated. But it's not like the call cost them the game.

He didn't purposely bump him. Look like he threw his hands up at the explanation and his hand hit the ump's arm. I guess that's a bump.
Posted on 4/29/14 at 2:12 pm to hendersonshands
you never answered if you cheered when the sunday home plate ump took a foul ball off the arm.
