Blues standing points by season: 2014: 111 2015: 109 2016: 106 2017: 99 2018: 94 I'd say they are moving backwards by finishing with a worse record every year for the past five years. The Blues are still a good team, but they seem further from winning a Cup than they did in 2014. In 2013-14, they had five 20-goal scorers, a terrifingly deep defense full of scoring threats and of their top 10 scorers, only one was even 30 years old. Both goalies were 28, too. Last year, they were down to 3 20-goal scorers and f of their top 10 scorers were 30+. The defense is no longer as deep, though Pietrangelo is really good. Their backup goalie is 32 and their nominal starter had a terrible year with a Save percentage of 906, below the league average of 908. They could win the Cup, but it would be a pretty big upset, especially with Nashville and Winnipeg out there, and the upgrades made in San Jose, not to mention Vegas.

Thanks. I knew if they got the goaltending they would be a threat. The rest of the pieces were in place.

Remember everyone. The STL is “only a baseball city”. Where are these idiots now?

Two bad StL was afflicted with 2 of the worst ownerships in the history of the NFL

one that was utterly incompetent and the other utterly dishonest in dealing with them

Though I don’t like soccer, I hope the MLS bid goes through. The Taylor family won’t backstab the city like Stank did. The Taylor family has been giving back to the city for years.

For all of the naysayers who don’t think smaller markets can draw, game seven was the highest rated NHL game since the league started keeping tabs on things like that since in 1994. Since there’s no offseason thread, it’s amazing how much Olli Maatta’s stock fell.

I remember thinking he would just make the tour of Canada since he went from Calgary to Toronto to Ottawa. He was awful in LA.

But shite Vancouver or Edmonton might sign him.

Sharks open the vault for Karlsson. 8 years and $88M is steep.

Well, considering they were in dead last on January 1st, and made the biggest reversal in NHL history by digging up a goalie no one had ever heard of... I don't feel the last bit bad about that.

The Blues were in dead f'n last. And then a miracle happened. Miracles are awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Blues winning the Cup was a huge upset, and it was due to them finding a player who wasn't even on their roster in the beginning of the year.

That is true about Binnington, but you were dead wrong about the lack of depth and age being a factor. Blues had 20 players score in the playoffs, and getting Dunn and Gunarsson back from injury really beefed up the defense as well as Payrako took a big step forward. Johnson only signed a one year deal for pocket change, so it was effortless to dump him if he wasn’t getting it done. And the Predators and Sharks were overrated as usual. But I’m sure you’ll be stroking their nutsack again before the start of the season.

Again... y'all were in dead last two months into the season. The run to the title was aided greatly by every single divisional winner losing in the first round of the playoffs. This was a wild playoffs in which it quickly became apparent it was one of those free for all years when anyone could win it. Which takes nothing away from winning the Cup, the names go on that thing forever.

The Blues finished 15th in goals, 14th in league age, and 10th in score adjusted Corsi %. They were a middle of the pack team in the regular season that got hot at the right time based primarily on a goalie playing out of his gourd. Which was friggin' awesome. I love stuff like that. I was rooting for them... the Blues were fun.

Is it sustainable? Probably not. But who cares? You won a Cup. sure, it was a moonshot, but what an f'n moonshot. If you're gonna go on a miracle run, go on a miracle run. You need to get those breaks like that to go on a run. And they have a good bit of cap room, so they can keep whatever pieces they want. But there's a reason Vegas has them at 14-1 to repeat, only the 6th highest team on the board... low for a Cup champion.

Enjoy your miracle. It was awesome. If you can't enjoy the thing on its own merits, then you might have a serious problem with experiencing joy. It's not about anyone else, but y'all. Go celebrate, nothing can change it.

Saw they were contenders yesterday for him. I like trouba but not entirely convinced this makes the rangers a threat in the metro.

They have some nice players but the Hank window is closing fast
