Seriously his stats suck

relying on stats to decide who was and wasn't great is plain stupid

Joe Willie Namath did shite people didn't see until the late 80's.

Going by stats does him and most players from that era a huge disservice

go shite on someone that is deserving

Fran Tarkenton

piled up career stats by never getting injured

Namath was great for a few years. Watch the NFL Films feature on him, has a clip where he doesn't plant his foot and barely flicks his wrist, then throws a perfect 20+ yard TD pass

Now whether or not Namath belongs in the HOF is another question

It's really funny. All the people who say Namath is overrated never watched him play and just go by his statistics while people who actually saw Namath play in his prime rave about his abilities. I wonder which side has more credibility on this issue...

Complete half his passes? Throw 37 more INTs than TDs? Make the playoffs twice? Have a lifetime losing record? Sorry, I'm not buying it.

And stop talking about "the guarantee." He wasn't walking around at the Super Bowl running off his mouth like T.O. or something. The New York Press was harassing him non-stop about how the Jets were gonna get their arse kicked until he just snapped and told them off. They basically trolled him into that comment and then made it larger than life. Even Namath has said that.

And tell me what he was doing that any Raiders QB of that era, John Hadl or Sonny Jurgensen wasn't doing at the same time.

like what? Jeff George did things that people had never seen too. He still sucks dick.

Namath threw more INTs than TDs in every season but 2. And in those years he was 18TD vs 15INT and 19TD vs 17 INT. He was under 50% completions for more seasons than he was over it. He led the league in passing yards 3 times. Led the league in TDs one time in his career. Led the league in INTs four times. 50.1% passer for his career. His career record was 62-63-4.

His stud super bowl year he completed 49.2% of his passes with 15 TDs and 17 INTs.

Now for Namath....he sucks.

If he and Archie Manning switched teams, you never would have heard of Namath.

so the best explanation is "You just don't understand! Or "you must be just a stat nerd, derp derp!" Explain it to us. He had abilities? I guess Dan McGwire should be HOF too, you should have seen his abilities.

They said the same thing about Randall Cunningham and Michael Vick. Are they Hall of Famers?

lol

explain it to us

What did your eyes see?

Being able to throw a sideline out better than most QBs of your time doesn't make you great.
