Diamonds are the newer line of the marucci echos. Diamonds are the white and gold color schemes.

The old red and blacks were just called echo and echo connect.

You have Echo Dmnd but there is a Echo Connect Dmnd. The connect is when it goes to 2 piece and composite.

You have basically a more youthful version of the echo dmnd -11. -12 is lighter thus more youth friendly then going to the -11's and -10's etc.

That's what I figured. I really appreciate your help, Chad.

Lots of good advice in this thread. I wouldn't be great help as all of my coaching experience is on the high school level, but the advice given here is pretty sound. Several of my players really liked the Easton Ghost bat. It was funny because a Corpus Christi sporting goods store gave us a brand new 33-23 one when we won the Corpus Christi ISD varsity tournament. Several of my players started using it and all bought their own pretty quick after that.

It got a hairline crack after about 3 weeks and I submitted a claim and was sent a new one. I used the bat for the next 5 years until I retired as my fungo bat with no issues.

I believe Louisville slugger and Easton Ghost are the top 2 baseball & softball bats. Hit with as many friends bats as possible and do research and see what she likes

She hasn't hit a growth spurt yet--she's only 4'6" about 70 pounds, so I got her a crappy Easton Ghost bat for about $50 because I didn't know what size she needed and didn't want to spend a bunch and have her outgrow it within a year.

I have an 11 year old daughter. She swings a 30 -11. She's 5-'1" though. So hard to say on size without knowing her strength, etc. Most girls are in the 29-31 range at that age.

You might have purchased a bat that was already dead.

I did see one last year freak out and jump on a coach for using one to hit infield. I might too if I'd have dropped $400 on one

It's kind of warranted. Mine has a 2 piece Echo. You have to go through the process of breaking them in, which is a great thing bc it will give much needed tee time. Once they are broken in though I wouldn't use that thing except for in games, and damn sure not for hitting infield. They break easily, and if you are going to spend that much on a bat you want to keep it useable for as long as possible.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money now, especially if you are having to go under 30. She might grow out of that quick. A cheaper alloy bat it probably better than the Ghost you got, especially if it's beaten to death.

Ahh. I was figuring he bought a ghost off of T Boy Boudreaux for $50 after their kid was done with it.

Yeah, that's the exact one I got. Piece of shite, but I knew it was. The lower end Marucci Echo alloy came in last night. 29/17. It was only $99. From what you said, since it's allow, it should be hot out of the package, so I'm gonna let her use it tonight. I've got some foam balls that I'll let her hit in the cage to get used to swinging it. Do a couple of drills with plastic balls. If she likes the way it feels, I'm just gonna let her use it. $100 bucks and you think I could unload it later and recoup some of that? Sounds like not much of a gamble. I'll wait till she grows to invest in something better.

Unless y'all think I should wait. She's not expecting a new bat and would use the crappy Ghost without complaining. But I'm thinking about after the season too. We've got a membership to DBat which gives you unlimited rounds in the batting cage. She gets frustrated when she hits one good and it doesn't really jump off the bat. Or if she hits one just barely on the handle--not even on the handle, just a tiny bit below the sweet spot--and it vibrates down and hurts her hand. I just want her to have some positive reinforcement when she puts a good swing on one.

Cause she's competitive as frick and gets pissed off when things don't go how she thins they should. But in a good way, she's not a diva like some of the girls and she doesn't show emotion on the field. Just bitches to me. lol. Goes 3-4 with a K looking, scores 3 runs, has 3 or 4 assists from 3rd or short and after the game, all she wants to talk about are the terrible strike calls the 14-year-old ump made in the top of the 1st.

That bat is good to go. Let her use it and don’t think twice. Give her confidence w the bat. Just start preparing yourself for next bat. If she enjoys the sport then she deserves an awesome bat.

7/9.

Honestly, i'd recommend 4 other bats before this one. Marucci doesn't have the best rep in fastpitch even though the bat is probably underrated. Still, LS, Easton's even Mizuno and one or two others makes better bats.

Well, I think I may have fricked up and should have gotten her a 28" instead of a 29". So I gave her the bat right before the game Friday night, she swung it a few times, liked the feel--had already said she loved the color--so I took off the wrapper and she hit about 10-15 pitches (foam ball) with a drill I did with her which is kinda like backwards soft toss, making her keep her head down because the ball is coming from behind where she can't see it until it's over the plate--crushed line drives. Perfect form.

Then she got in the cage with her coach and hit 7 or 8 with a real softball and goes right back into her bad habits of casting/dragging her bat. She doesn't bail out, but she rotates her hips too soon and instead of finishing up the middle with her stomach facing the pitcher, she's facing more towards the SS and her arms extend way before contact instead of staying inside the ball and extending after contact. So she's getting no power at all.

I've tried everything I can think of. I set the tee up and make her try to hit line drives over the 2nd baseman's head, trying to get her to let the ball travel and finishing up the middle or even exaggerated towards the opposite field. She can do it in drills, but once live bullets start flying, she reverts back to bad habits. I told her it's not her fault--she just started playing a year ago, and she hasn't swung enough to develop that muscle memory yet.

She's really small, but explosive and can certainly swing a 17 oz bat. But I think the length is a problem. It's almost like that 29" is swinging her. I think she needs a 28". For some reason, choking up feels really weird to her, and even if she starts an AB choked up, her hands wind up sliding down. Anyway, in a few ABs in 2 games, she's fouled 2 back before walking, then fouled a couple off before singling a pop up over the SS's head and then popping up to 2nd base.

So she's "hit" a softball with the bat 15-20 times. Is that too much to return the bat? They say "no use," but how do they determine that? There's not scuff marks on it, I don't think. If I knew they'd take it back, I could go ahead and order another or even pick one up from Academy today before her game. I just don't want to be stuck with a bat she'll outgrow in month and another she's not quite ready to swing yet when the prices added together could have gotten a much nicer one.

My options:

1) ship the 29" back tomorrow, wait for them to approve or deny return, then order same bat in 28" and hope it's in in time for Friday's state tourney (would be cutting it mighty close)

2) order the 28" now (be here Wednesday), ship the 29" back tomorrow, wait until they approve or deny return, and if denied, just return the 28"

3) keep the 29" and order some choke up rings ($9.99 for a 5 pack--Academy has none in stock

4) Ship back and wait, order the black 2024 Mizuno Finch -13 Fastpitch Softball Bat for $99.99. Return if denied. It's an alloy, so would be good to go out of the box. But are drop 13s legal for Dixie?

5) Ship back and wait, order the Navy/Pink DeMarini Uprising 2022 Fastpitch Softball Bat -12 for $79.99 that should be in by Thursday or Friday. Also an alloy.

All those options wouldn't stick me with 2 bats as I could always return them if the Diamond Echo return is denied. But she'd have to go back using the crappy Ghost today, which is also 29". But they only play 1 game, maybe 2, so she could live. Other options that could have her hitting with a 28" today, but could wind up sticking me with 2 bats:

6) pick up the Navy/Orange Rawlings Eclipse 2022 Fastpitch Softball Bat (-12) at Academy today for either $66.49 or $49.99 (I thought I saw one in the store that was $49.99, but online price is $66.49. Aluminum, but not an alloy, I don't think, so would need some breaking in

7) pick up the Red/Black Louisville Slugger Quest 2022 Fastpitch Softball Bat (-12) at Academy today for $61.74. Also not alloy.

8) pick up the Rose/Gold 2022 Mizuno Women's F20 Jennie Finch Fast-Pitch Softball Bat (-13) at Academy for $94.99. It is alloy, so would be ready to go today.

I hate this about myself, but I struggle with buyer's remorse when it comes to technology. It's not even about the actual money amount as much as I just hate spending any money on tech that will be outdated (or outgrown) so soon. Always 2nd guessing myself. Anyway, I know it's not the end of the world, but any advice would be much appreciated.

Hmmm, watch softball for a weekend or cheer competitions….

Easy choice for me.

If I had to watch cheering all weekend, I’d want to eat a bullet.

Hold onto the 29 so that when she grows bigger you already have it.

Get her a 27” or 28”. If the “bat is swinging her” it’s way to freaking big.

I am.

She used a 27" last year. It's way too small. And the 29" is only "swinging her" when doesn't stay inside of the ball and it winds up dragging. If she's doing everything right, she can get it around. But she's not, so. I think I'm gonna get her those rubber rings and see if that works. In the meantime, she's got a teammate who uses a 28" and will actually share. I am shocked.

Sorry for the long posts this morning, I was running out of time and freaking out a bit. Like a 10-11-year-old district tournament game is the GD Super Bowl. I just know how good she can be and want her to have confidence and enough fun that she wants to keep playing.
