I think this is why indoor became popular before outdoor, full sided soccer back in the 70's and 80's in the US.

It's also why indoor soccer fell by the wayside. It's similar to Arena Football in that it produces a lot of action in a small space in a faster amount of time but you won't have anyone say that Arena Football is more fun than NFL/Major college football.

Soccer is a great game, and I think that passionate soccer fans try to share that with others that aren't always receptive of the game for a litany of reasons which leads to harsh words and arguments which do no good for the sport and those that are passionate about it.

I can watch if I have someone explain the tactics to me or I'll lose interest. I just can't stand the flopping.

Easiest way I know of how to explain soccer is to compare it to basketball. In basketball you don't always drive to the hoop.

Sometimes you pass it around the perimeter and wait for a lane to open up, Other times you drive in and have to pass it back out because the other D closed down the lane.

Same thing with soccer, you basically try and work the perimeter, create mismatches, open lanes and drive in to the goal.

Not a perfect explanation, but one I've always thought was good.

If you play video games, FIFA will help you understand the rules and tactics.

Not bad. Would that make a cross akin to an alley oop?

I would say alley-oops have a 95%+ chance of scoring, crosses not so much.

Every time someone says how boring soccer is to watch, the fanboys have to rush to say that that person does not understand the beauty of the game.

This is true of both soccer and Nascar fans.

They don't have to butt in, but that's true.

The glamour of soccer doesn't always come in goals. It comes in the passing and the build-up as well as great tackling and defense which many people don't understand.

Nothing really close to an alley oop in soccer. Closest thing to a sure thing is a penalty kick and even that isn't close to 100%.
