The WAC is going to be destroyed, it's going to be a terrible league and Tech will be traveling such long distances for a league that will be worse than the Sun Belt.

We shall see. It appears now that the WAC will try to recruit more schools in the EAST. Who knows what the future will bring. at 3am two days ago when news broke about BYU it looked for the WAC. About 18 hours later it changed. Everything is up in the air right now. However the key for Tech is not to panic.

I just read an article that said they are going to attempt to rebuild the WAC with more schools. My only question is it too late for Louisiana Tech? They would owe 5 million to leave and is there a conference out there that would be worth paying it up that would want them?

Staying in the WAC just doesn't seem like that smart of a plan to me. Why play teams that far away where you have no natural rivals, no opposing fans at your games, etc.

La Tech IS LSU's bitch, what are you talking about? The rest of the schools in Louisiana don't even come in the same neighborhood as LSU in football.

I guess as some on that is both a Tech Grad and LSU grad I never viewed it that way. It is fun to play LSU but I never saw LSU as a foe since we rarely play each other. Too different animals

once again. Tech looks stupid playing in the WAC, like they want so bad to be legitimate. The conference makes no sense for a team in Ruston, Louisiana.

When people say this they don;t recall the history of the WAC. When we entered the WAC there were Texas schools in it which made it more travel friendly.

I am not sure how playing in the WAC or at least the OLD WAC makes Tech look stupid

Hendersonshands, I took your derogatory term out of my post, because I realize this is a site with tons of South Louisianians, so okay, I apologize for that.

THAT being said, you're the biggest flamer we've had on the Tech board sometimes, so don't act high-and-mighty. I am really only posting because I saw you on here getting off on the thought of Tech in the Belt. I've been to games in Monroe and Lafayette and dated chicks that went to those schools and have no PERSONAL issues with them, even if I don't wanna be associated with them athletically. We at least don't run crying to an admin/mod about something mean someone said, or edit our own school's name when people spell it correctly on the message board. The idiots at the ULM board even censor out Tech and just replace it with X's. You've GOT to be kidding me...

To be clear any school that left after Fresno and Nevada did would not have to pay the 5 million dollar buyout. That was made clear by the Commish today. The clause is now considered null and void after Fresno and Nevada left. They will have to pay a combined 10 million but as to the other schools that clause is no longer in effect

If someday the SB had enough teams (I think 12), could they have a Championship game?

The problem of course is this jumping from conference to conference is not helping make natural rivals. But you do have a point. That is why the WAC must expand more EAST. Now it might be too late for that which I blame on Benson.

That's what I'm saying, Tech isn't in LSU's neighborhood in football. It's not a cutdown, neither are we. It's just the nature of the beast.

if the WAC is going to be destroyed, it would be a good time to get back into a conference that makes more sense. if you get a C-USA invite, then great. if you don't, the sun belt isn't a death wish. it's a league that is getting better. teams like north texas, mtsu, troy, are putting much more money into their teams. the competition in basketball and baseball are good as well.

At this point unless there is a Conf USA invite I say Tech stay in the WAC and wait it out.

What if the WAC can't get back to 8 conference teams in football? NCAA requires at least 8.

Could someone advise what Latech brings to the table? No market, plus a small fan base, that's generally poor; save the trucking company guy, Bradshaw, and Malone. Even those people know a bad investment and will eventually cut their losses.

Their only hope is to be a placeholder should some conference be short one school to make a minimum requirement, e.g., 12 to split into divisions and have a playoff.

I think that's the plan, I'm pretty sure New Mexico State and one of the Texas schools is going to get an invite. There's 9 teams playing football right now, USA is adding a football team, I'm sure Denver is going to leave the conference since they're only in for basketball. Add two more and you've got a championship game. Plus you can add in more bowl tie ins.

Our practice facility is actually quite nice IMO.

Like I was saying does paying 5 million make sense for any conference they may get asked to now? The WAC only has 6 schools now. So now LA Tech can pick 7 games each year and make a close rivals. Or as it said in the article they were going to see if some schools wanted to move up a division and join the WAC. Maybe then the WAC can be a conference that has a Western Division and an Eastern one to keep teams happy.

I have wondered about that for a while. It would add some good national exposure to the Belt and to the two teams playing in the game.

Well , and I saying this as a Tech Grad that does not is resisting going back to the Sunbelt, you have a point. I mean the Sunbelt looks nothing like when we left it.

The problem is that no doubt any Sunbelt invite would come with conditions. I think Tech needs to wait it out. It is CLEAR and we shall take both Nevada and Fresno to Court on this that cannot leave for two years. So it is not like the WAC falls apart tomorrow. So there is time to weigh options. I just it would be stupid for TECH to make a move this early

Someone mentioned earlier that the buyout clause doesn't count for others.

I'm not saying they should do anything tomorrow, but I'm saying the Sun Belt is something they should really consider if an offer is extended. Sometimes it's better to be proactive rather than reactive.

It can get back to 8 in two years. That is not a problem. But if that happened yes they could not play Football in Div I as a Conference

I wouldn't mind NMSU coming back, but that's about as far west as I would go. I want to see the Conference more packed together like it is now. It was kinda out of whack a few years ago, lol. When you had Idaho, Utah St, NMSU.
