Bingo. I was a big LSU fan, was brought up watching games with my family. I still watch and follow LSU football. So yeah, you're spot on. Nevermind the fact that I went to Louisiana Tech and despite the fact that I left there, I still follow their teams. I'm a total bandwagon frick. ULL will likely never compete for national titles. I grew up watching LSU, I went to Tulane so frick LSU. I think you'd be happier if you did the same.
But never in a million years would I even bother arguing over football teams with them. LSU is a top program. I support tulane athletics out of pride for the institution, not because I'm a "fan". The sidewalk LSU fans weeks are crushed because a university they didn't go to lost. Weak.
You're doing 50% of it right. You go to ULL, then have at it and just laugh that about half the people you're arguing with over institutions went to neither. frick rooting for another school's team.

I don't really give a shite about some name change personally. If people call it UL or ULL I don't really give a shite.
I call it UL because it just sounds better, not for any other reason. If I'm talking to someone around here they know exactly what I'm talking about if I say UL. If I'm out of state I'll say UL-Lafayette. It's really not a big deal to me. But for some, it turns into a big deal because I didn't add the extra L.

To each his own. I grew up watching LSU football and I still enjoy it. I support my school as a student and will continue to support them both as a fan and financially as an alum (which I won't do for LSU). The teams rarely play so its not much of a conflict.
My family likes to watch/attend games and tailgate and I enjoy doing that with them. That's not likely to change.

I don't understand how you can be meltdown mad about your college team. It's supposed to be institutional pride/school spirit. Now when the saints lose, yeah I get super pissed there is winning and nothing else. It is all football
