So the NFL wants to incentivize teams to hire a minority coach?

What kind of society are we living in when we give someone something because of the color of there skin alone? Not because of there knowledge, accolades, experience, etc. No no, we will hire this guy/girl just because they check a box and we get drafts picks because of it. What in the frick

I mean it’s not like teams would be just hiring some random black guy from their neighborhood

Right.

The rule came into being in 2002 because in a league dominated by African American players, there were only 6 black head coaches in the 35 Super Bowl years.

Even post Rooney Rule, it's not like the hiring process has been bad to white candidates compared to the player demographics, and most coaches tend to be ex-players.

If you're black and you're qualified for a job position, would you want to work for a racist owner because the government forces the owner to hire you? Wouldn't you rather look for another position where the owner hires you on his free will because he wants to?

If it's a regular job with thousands of similar positions but when it's 32 it's a bit more desperate. Also, they're not exactly beating the door down to offer black coaches NFL HC jobs. You might be passing on your only shot.

Most racist owners aren't in the Klan and burning crosses at practice its more soft racism or mostly you hire who you know and if you don't hire any black coaches, well you don't hire any rise cycle repeat.

when you hire a guys like Kingsbury that got fired for losing at a mediocre college program while the OC of the reigning SB Champs doesn't get a sniff, something looks bad.

If Kliff were black, the idiots on this board would be screaming affirmative action hire.

Right. No one's mad at the Patriots for keeping Bill Belichick. Guys like Kingsbury getting jobs when Bienemy doesn't is different.

The NFL's never had a great track record. The Rooney Rule happened in 2002 after Tony Dungy got fired with a winning record and Dennis Green got fired after one losing season in the previous 10 years.

It may be more cronyism with hiring HC's, but heck, Marvin Lewis is the winningest HC in Bengals history. He took over a 2-14 team, gave them their most consistently good team in franchise history, then they fade to 2-14 when he's let go.

Marvin Lewis doesn't have an NFL job, but Kliff Kingsbury does.

After 5 straight winning seasons and playoff appearances but no wins, Lewis went 6-9-1, 7-9, 6-10 and got fired. Now that's not unreasonable in and of itself, maybe it was time to move on but contrast that with Jeff Fisher. Who went 13-3 in 2008, lost in the division round has 2 losing seasons and gets fired by the Titans. After just 1 year out he gets hired by the Rams and goes 7-8-1, 1-9, 6-10, 7-9, 4-9 when he;s fired by the Rams. There's a reason July 9th is called Jeff Fisher day

The Chargers fired Marty Schottenheimer after 3 straight winning seasons and a 14-2 record in his last year

I thought we were past treating people differently because of the color of their skin.
