John Hirschbeck was among them this afternoon, when he went looking for a confrontation and found it in Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper.

Harper check-swung on a 2-2 slider from Pirates starter Wandy Rodriguez, which just barely escaped the edge of the strike zone. Home plate umpire Bob Davidson appealed to third base umpire Hirschbeck, who ruled that Harper had swung at the offering. Harper, exasperated, expressed his disagreement with the call some 100 feet away. Hirschbeck immediately threw up his hands and yelled at Harper, like a drunk guy looking for trouble in a bar. He walked towards home plate, continuing to gesticulate and shout as Harper quietly talked to Davidson from the batter’s box. Third base coach Trent Jewett intercepted Hirschbeck as he stomped towards Harper, but it was no matter as Hirschbeck ejected Harper from the game shortly thereafter.

I know Braves fans would find this acceptable but what about everyone else? Video Is Here of Incident

Yes, umpires should be suspended. If a coach made a mistake as egregious as some of the umpire's calls, they would be fired. See Grady Little leaving Pedro Martinez in the game one bloop single too long.

Umpires running rampant with no Bobby Cox's in baseball dugouts. Gonzalez would probably walk out there and shake his hand.

The Ryan Howard ejection that they linked in the video was even worse. Some of those guys obviously are on a power trip

If I were that coach and the ump would have tossed my best player for that I think I'd have launched every base in the infield into the stands on my way out the park.

Yea, Hirschbeck needs to be disciplined. Umpires need to show restraint. It's a little different when a player or coach is screaming in their face, but Harper didn't even walk towards him. Hirschbeck should've made his call, let Harper voice his displeasure, and let the game continue. Unfortunately, some of these assholes think people are paying to watch them umpire.

Look at the two names of the players that got ejected. That probably has more to do with it than anything. If Johnny Unknown had done what Bryce Harper or Howard did the ump would have probably laughed.

How about shoo'ing batters away?

Obviously too close to take, but Holbrook shoos BJ away for contesting the call.

Reasons like this is why we're eventually heading to an automated/non-human umpire system.

People paid to see Bryce Harper play. No one paid to see that guy umpire, and he was looking to throw out Harper. I hope Davey got ejected too

I've got no problem with that one. The ump gave him more leeway than usual for balls/strikes. He even told him to go back to the dugout again after Upton started yelling at him. Then, after the ejection, he didn't get up in Upton's face. He stood there and let Upton call him whatever 4 letter words he wanted.

Amazing that Balkin Bob was behind the plate and it wasn't even him who threw a player out prematurely for arguing balls and strikes.

No we aren't. There's plenty of technology out there that could allow for most calls to be made electronically in baseball. MLB doesn't even use replay to its full extent.

Yeah if I remember correctly it was correctly called too. Holbrook shouldn't have shooed him off but that was no excuse for BJ to get himself ejected.

Of course I can't blame him because Holbrook called the infield fly, and the strike zone was pretty bad that game.

Umps and NBA refs need to be suspended publicly much more often than they are for this "look at me" behavior they exhibit so often.

For bad calls I think suspension could be warranted if consistent and egregious but should be done privately by leagues.
