Should Kobe Bryant have some sort of involvement in USA Youth Basketball Development?

I was listening to one of his interviews about the state of US basketball and he feels it’s stagnant in the youth department up to college compared to the rest of the world. He’s expressed his extreme dissatisfaction when it comes to AAU Ball. He says all these so called coaches care about is finding the biggest most athletic kids when they’re young and pumping their head up by saying, “Hey you’re big fast and can already dunk, just keep doing that.” It completely ruins their development and begins to already wear down their knees. He said I guarantee you in other countries you can not find a kid in a youth basketball academy that doesn’t already know the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, motion offenses and form shooting. He went even further to say, “hell they have kids that shoot free throws better than our professionals.” He pretty much was making the point saying if you’re going to call yourself a pro, you need to be able to shoot a routine 15 ft jumper reliably and make two damn free throws and it starts with retooling the bottom of the system and teaching these kids the fundamentals. I totally agree, any thoughts?

I love how Kobe thinks he's a genius basketball mind in a 2019 that's seeing ball movement and 3 point shooting explode when he spent so much time being a chucker.

I honestly feel like he could have been a much better basketball player if he got to watch Lebron and then tailor his game after him.

He could save the game.

Anyone that is second to Jordan but greater than LeTamperon should be consulted.

Kobe would be an incredible teacher with little SJW in his blood. A true killer.

Was Kobe ball dominant, yes but you’re mixing up his playing style with Basketball IQ and fundamentals. Kobe could do it all he chose to be a scorer like Jordan.

That's the thing.

I'm pretty sure his basketball IQ is fantastic. He just didn't use it as often as he should have.

One team, Golden State has ran anything close to as successful an offense as you describe.

Kobe was a complete monster offensively. A one man wrecking crew. He and Shaq destroyed and then once again for his last two titles (two more than Lebra).

We don't have anyone with Kobe's ability in the league as of today. I believe Giannis is capable if he continues to progress.

If Europe had a bunch of big, athletic kids they'd play more like our kids. People develop skills out of necessity.

ReauxLies I'm trying to tell you this as nicely as possible, but it seems I need to go ahead and give it to you straight.

LeBron is a Diva bitch. He was a loser in Cleveland and was forced to "take my Bitch arse to Miami" forming a super team to get over the hump, AFTER losing to a Dirk Nowitiki led Mavericks squad.

Once the well ran dry he warmly embraced Cleveland again after they had 3 number 1 picks air balling on Bennett, hitting on Kyrie (who he ran out of town) and traded for Kevin Love after drafting Wiggins.

He won a title after Draymon gets suspended, otherwise that series ends in 5 games. He loses 3 more titles and leaves Cleveland once again to become Queen SJW making up shite about racial overtones being done to his property while becoming a preacher to the morally declined white folk in america.

He isn't the greatest of all time. He is the greatest bitch of all time though.

Giannis' development could be Kobe like with his game. Yes, but I doubt he will. He just has the tools to do so if he wished to ask the mamba to teach him.

People shite on AAU coaches because they are an easy target. However, there have been several things that have de-emphasized their roles recently, some of which have been planned while others have been more organic.

On the planned side, there are more camps in the summer where players get instruction from professional coaches, like at the NBA 100 camp. The new USA basketball changed lengthen the time of the camps, I believe.

Additionally, over the last decade, the role of the U-15, 16, 17, and 18 teams have really grown. Those are led by top high school guys and sometimes college coaches like Jay Wright and Bill Self. The players spend 3-4 weeks in camps and then the summer tournaments but they all want it because it helps their rankings to show out there. And the teams are just dominant. Besides Calipari losing a game to RJ Barrett’s U-17 Canada team I don’t think they have lost in a decade.

On the more organic side, guys are choosing to play at private schools at increasing numbers. In last year’s class, 23 of 30 guys played at private schools. Now some played at local private schools but the majority played at schools like Oak Hill, Monteverde, IMG, Prolific Prep, and places like that. Obviously the time doesn’t overlap as much in the summer, but the guys are getting instruction from coaches like Steve Smith who have coached lots of elite prospects and not just from a guy in the neighborhood who wants to become an agent one day.

that's every coach on every level in this country. Kobe's philosophy is really born out of his pompous nature from growing up in Italy.

Is IMG's basketball barred from completing for championships similar to heir football team?(is that even accurate?)

I see Oak Hill and those other other teams on tv quite often but never see IMG.

I think they all compete in these kind of fake national tournaments like the Dick’s Sporting Goods National Championship with schools like La Lumiere, Monteverde, etc. And that MLK tournament at the basketball hall of fame.

They aren’t part of the Florida athletic association but I’ve seen them play schools like Oak Hill on ESPNU.
