Thats before NIL dude. The gap is clearly closing.

The SEC is still going to be the best conference overall more often than not, but its a new world.

The SEC had a losing record against P5 teams

Such an illogical argument. It’s fine at the water cooler with John who is a casual. Doesn’t work on a sports message board.

When a low tier SEC team plays a high tier OOC opponent, that’s a little bit different playing field isn’t it? Until you rank teams in each conference and have 1 play 1 and 2 plays 2 and go down the line, record against another conference is meaningless.

It’s astounding to me that most on this board are 18+ years old and are trying to argue that the best football isn’t played, top to bottom, in the SEC. I mean what planet are y’all living on? The best teams usually have the best players. The best players play in the SEC by a wide, wide margin.

This is cut off your nose to spite your face behavior because you hate Alabamas success. Nothing more, nothing less.

The guidelines

The committee protocol was specifically written to allow them to do whatever the frick they want. It's always been jacked up, they just waited until the last year to say "frick it" entirely.

I’ve dealt with this shite two years in a row now.

You would think 65-7 would have made them too embarrassed to do it again.

1. The guidelines don’t say “you must rank a team higher if they won the H2H,” just that it must be “considered.”

quote:

Strength of schedule, head-to-head competition and championships won must be specifically applied as tie-breakers between teams that look similar

They may be considered when ranking the four best teams.

If you are comparing two teams specifically, which it appears you are doing, head-to head MUST be applied per the guidelines.

Head-to-head results are very obviously more pertinent when comparing two teams than strength of schedule. Those results are not typically available.

Florida St played and beat 2 SEC teams

Which is it? Did they beat “two SEC teams” or a 9 win LSU and 5 win Florida?

What is a "low tier SEC team" in a given year?

Ole Miss is historically meh at football, but is a signature win this year for UGA and Bama. Mizzou would have been considered a "low tier SEC team" if KSU had held on to beat them at the time, but we know now that isn't the case.

According to who?

Most teams in the top 35 or so have the capacity to beat most other top 35 teams any given Saturday. A much more accurate measure than one game is how a team performs over a full season, and that includes evaluating the strength of their opposition.

The SEC is a self-licking ice cream cone.

I suggest you simply check the football polls. It's somewhat fluid.

Look at the recruiting rankings, look a the results in the playoffs, look at the draft.

They all seem to correlate. It isn’t hard to understand.

SEC has won the last four national championships with three different teams.

The Big 10 is a guy who wears tighty whities over his khakis while he fist pumps beating Northwestern, Illinois, and Indiana.

LSU was down 14 when Daniels went out. The Heisman winning QB threw an interception on the previous drive down 7.

Are you seriously asking if playing an actual game against a team is more important than looking at their schedule WHICH WOULD INCLUDE THAT GAME?

You are asking if the results of the games matter?

quote:

A much more accurate measure than one game is how a team performs over a full season,

We are still comparing TX and Bama right?

quote:

and that includes evaluating the strength of their opposition.

You do see how this becomes very circular, right? If bama and TX was the only game played this year, TX would finish #1, but their strength of schedule would be #2.

And you are still ignoring the quote that says it MUST be applied.
