college football would not be half as entertaining without all the madness and controversy at the end of the season. Screw fairness, keep the system.

So this season must suck for you since there isn't too much controversy at the end of the season

First off, do away with pre-season rankings

Top 8 teams at the end of the regular season/conf. championships, go to BCS games

Add 2 more BCS bowls and the winners of the first 4 BCS games play in these additional bowls

Winner of those 2 bowls play for the title

its essentially a playoff but we get to keep the bowls, actually get 2 more.

i dont see where the problem would be in this

Since the BCS started, college football has probably crowned the best team as champion more than any other sport. Just because team b beats team a in a 1 game playoff doesn't mean that team b is really the better or more deserving team.

No team is going to get "hot" and be able to get through a playoff. If it's a one time "+1" situation, perhaps. But a playoff would entail a team, regardless of their record, having to go through a gauntlet of at least 3 tough playoff games. If a team makes it through that, they were the best team..................PERIOD.
Why is this not apparent...................especially since it's been proven in every other team sport?

Unfortunately, bringing that 4th team, Stanford, into it opens up the debate for Wisconsin, Ohio State, etc.

Ahh certainly. I should have mentioned that there will always, always be debate for who's getting in. But the debate over the 4th spot is not going to be a cry to destroy the system, as the debate that rages now.

Nothing can or should ever eliminate the debate, but a plus one, 4 team playoff would be a thing of beauty and eliminate the significant flaws of the current college football champion-crowning mechanism.

How has it been proven in every other team sport?

You really think the NY Giants were the best team in football? You think that an 8 seed is the best college basketball team? You really believe that a Wild Card team is usually the best MLB team?

High School and pro games are just as exciting in the regular season

Wait, you're saying NFL regular season games are as exciting as CFB regular season games?

Not even close, IMO.

I think it makes the season more interesting since a team that has 3 losses and is currently not in the running for NC still has a chance

I don't want a 3 or 4 loss team to ever have any shot of sniffing a title. Again, that's just my take.

If I'm not mistaken, every other damn sport has a playoff and it's pretty damn exciting.

If I'm not mistaken, every other damn sport has a regular season that is MUCH less exciting than CFB's.

Have a playoff and settle it on the field.....................not through some computers and polls

How are you deciding on which teams get to that playoff, "some computers and polls"?

No........................not exactly.

You have a system in which ALL conference champions get an automatic bid to the playoffs. THEN you can use a similar system to what basketball does..................have RPI and a committee decide who gets at large berths. Sure, you still have an opinion element to it, but the chances that the best team is not included in the playoff is GREATLY REDUCED compared to a BCS deciding on two teams that are PERCEIVED to be the best.

I could care less how "exciting" someone PERCEIVES the regular season to be. College football regular season games were exciting well before there was ever a BCS. I just want the best teams in the championship game, and for them to have to prove it on a LEVEL playing field. Not a system that rewards teams for their PERCIEVED superiority because they play in a "stronger" conference.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the Giants team that won the Super Bowl over the Patriots? My answer to that would be yes. Why................? Because they made it through the playoffs and won the championship game. Do I think an 8 seed is the best college basketball team......................? If they end up winning the NCAA tournament, of course they are. They WON THE TOURNAMENT. That means that at the end of the season, they used their experience during the regular season, to correct any shortcomings and tighten up their execution. That's who the best team is.................................not a team that goes undefeated during the regular season when not much is at stake (NE Patriots).
