If holding is called, Seattle is fricked.

Keep telling yourself that
So giving up over 100 yards every other week means they can't be run on. Gotcha.

the Seahawks average giving up 101.6 yards/game. The Eagles averaged 104.1. By contrast, the Seahawks have the best pass defense in the NFL, while the Eagles have the worst. The only chance for the Saints is to run the ball effectively and to not turn the ball over.
If Payton can be content with watching Brees hand it off over and over and over and over, the Saints could win. But, that won't happen. We need Les Miles to take over the playcalling.

It happened Saturday.
Here's another conversation that I plan to bbring up in the post season: Given the way this team has won games this year, and given our contract situations on offense and defense, should we move to be even more of a ballcontrol/defense team for the next couple seasons? Basically be the Pats when they were winning SBs...

If the Refs call the game the way its supposed to be called, itll be a tight game. If they stick to letting Seattles D Line play however they want and only call them off sides once, Seattle rolls.
I do, however, believe that the Saints keep this very close. Id say this game comes down to 1-2 4th quarter possessions.
The fact that the last game was a blow out helps no one but the Saints. They have a chip on their shoulder and the fact that SP was out-coached will force them to have a different game plan. The Haralson and Vaccarro injuries are the biggest concern for the Saints.
My prediction: Seattle 23 - Saints 18.

I don't know what got into Payton, but I like it. The fact that he stuck to the run despite Brees' two INTs says a lot and bodes well for his offensive philosophy right now.

Wouldn't mind at all. Defense isn't the liability anymore, and they have a solid core of guys on that side of the ball now.
That would bring up the question of how much we value our pass-catching TE...

Bottom line about Seattles defense is (and all he Seahawks fans will dispute this) they are built to play with a lead. Pass rushers, great pass defending secondary, good coverage linebackers. When Seattle gets a lead and they force you to abandon the run, they have you where they want you. Where they have struggled this season is in a close game when they other team is running and keeping possession. If their Offense struggles early and the Saints can keep it close or get a lead and run the ball it will be a close game.

quote:no it didn't. with 10 minutes to go, we were throwing 40 yards down the field. yes, it worked. but, it was unnecessary. we should have been handing it off, slowly moving down the field and securing victory. instead we moved down really quickly, stalled and kicked a field goal. Then, the Eagles scored a TD to take the lead shortly after.
It happened Saturday
It only happened on the last drive. Our RBs rushed for 5.4, 5.6, and 7.3 yards per carry. After the first half, Drew should have not been throwing the ball at all. Frick, even on 3rd and 5, i would've handed it off and then gone for it on 4th down. The Eagles just couldn't stop Robinson and Ingram.
Brees is not going to beat the Seahawks. Our OL will. So, Payton just needs to run the ball in the ground stubbornly and see what happens. IMO, it is our only chance at victory.
quote:absolutely. the Saints were 3rd in the year in Time of Possession this year, even though we had the 4th most pass attempts of any team (by contrast we were 26th in rushing attempts). We were the only team to finish the season in the top 5 in offensive yards and yards allowed on defense. if we can run like we have the last few weeks, we need to become a more run heavy team and let Drew pick his spots. If he can ever just take what the defense gives him instead of heaving the ball deep or into double coverage, this team could be scary good.

With a good running game, youll need a guy like Graham more than Big Plays WRS. The deep threat guys become the ones you eliminate.

quote:if Drew doesn't stop forcing the ball to him in double coverage, I think you have to let him walk. He's become a crutch that Drew won't let go of. And, that hurts our offense more than it helps when we can run the ball effectively.

Saints win. Wont be close. Seahawks peaked too early.

I think the Saints have a good chance for a few reasons:
1) It's incredibly difficult to beat the Saints twice. The game plan will be much different than the MNF game where they were embarrassed. They will be out to punch Seattle in the mouth.
2) Sean Payton is showing he wants to run the ball, finally. The Saints, with a rushing attack, is damn near impossible to stop. The Seahawks are obviously a much better team than the Eagles, but I think the Saints will move the ball well if they stick to the run.
3) Lastly, no one is giving them a chance, at all. They just got a huge monkey off their back winning on the road, and that should scare the shite out of any team. They are confident right now, and the last two weeks have been Payton's best play calling. Look out.
