We haven't had a good slapfight in a while about whether he is a mediocre game manager or elite QB.

Neither. Not elite but not Jason Campbell either. Also not worth that money.

IMO they're overpaying by 3-4m a season

This is a weird conversation to have. Overpaying means paying more than you have to pay. What option did they have?

Any QB that leads a team to two consecutive SBs is going to end up being paid amongst the game's highest paid. Him being paid around $18 million was never going to happen.

If he continues his progress, it will be worth it as he still has a lot of room to grow.

I wonder, and I don't know the answer to this, if you put Jake Locker on that team if he takes them to 2 SBs. Did Wilson do anything spectacular or make certain big plays that catapulted them over the top in certain games, ala the Eli to Manningham throw on the sideline or the Flacco game in Denver? If so then he's worth it, if not then...Truth is with these NFL contracts we never know the true value and length. Could really be just a 3 year deal (avg out guaranteed $ and see how 4th year is structured) and that doesn't set a team back too far espcially if they keep doing what they're doing now.

Qbs we think are better than Wilson:

Brady, Peyton, Rodgers, Brees, Big Ben

Qbs we think will be better than him

Luck

So he is the 6-10 range and due a new contract. He is absolutely going to get top dollar. That is how this works. Look at how Dalton and Cam got paid

Never understood the Wilson dislike. He's been successful everywhere, including becoming an immediate starter in the NFL in his first season.

He's not spectacular, but leaders/winners don't need to be spectacular to run an offense effectively.

Correct but he doesn't fall into this category..

Statistically, he is in the upper-echelon of quarterbacks in the NFL.

Me either. He's an exciting player to watch. For some reason people blow as gasket when you put him in the top 10.
He just got a freaking Jake Locker comparison

A) They had the option to let him sit and put some pressure on him. You're assuming he wouldn't capitulate.

As for overpaying, I'm talking in terms of the average QB who earns above 20m per season (on average). I know QBs are unique propositions and there isn't some store where they could just go get a 15m a year QB who averages a 90 Quarterback rating. I'm judging vs the market, which as I admit, is unfair.

B) Colin Kaepernick was a pass away from 2 straight superbowls, he has a 17m average per year contract for 6 years with practically no guarantees, that declines in value every year he doesn't win the superbowl or make all pro.

This is data for the time up until Kaepernick signed his contract

And it's not like RW suddenly jumped into being top 5 in any major passing stat last year (QBR maybe?).

Is your chart supposed to be a negative for Wilson? Looks like he is the 6-7th best QB by your standards

I'd say he's about there. How much should the 6-7th best QB be paid?

Also, one factor few seem to consider, 4 years is a very very short contract for a franchise player at his age. He can make serious bank on a 3rd contract.

That's dictated by the market. Just look at Dalton for example

Hmmm. I find zero exciting about Wilson. From his way of saying nothing at all to his style of play. He encompasses boring imo

Honestly, that's what QB's who can win a Super Bowl cost. Right or wrong, that's the market. You either opt out or pay the man.

That's TODAYS NFL... I think he is more on line for about 15 mil ayear..... Hes more a game manager than anything else... He will never have super stats.. But winning is all that matters anyway... And HE finds ways to win...........

I'd say he's the 10th best QB right now, but will undoubtedly move up the list. You have to pay to keep that. People bitched about Tannenhills contract, but I saw not problem with it. Don't understand bitching about Wilson's.

Rodgers
Brady
Brees
Manning
Romo
Big Ben
Luck
Rivers
Ryan

Are the guys I'd still have above him. A lot of these guys are up there in age. Wilson will
Be top 5. It's only a matter of time.

Exactly, people seem to forget that he hasn't been in the league that long.
