Camera's/reporters were there.

Tiger is a well known jackass and he does charity stuff all the time.

Hitler visited orphanages for propaganda.

Pieces of shite can do nice things, that doesn't change who they are. People just don't want to admit it because they've been duped for so long and have a fetish for Lefty.

I like how the FIGJAM stuff is always brought up, but you can watch him 100% at every tournament and you'll never see anything other than a friendly disposition.

He may be an a-hole in real life, but if you're gracious to practically everyone you meet in public, who really cares.

Tiger's image cracked. So did Hitler's (obviously, and your comparison is dumb).

Tiger was well known to be a total dick to fans.

Still waiting on any negative fan encounters for Phil. He's not even one of my favorite guys on tour, but I've still never heard anything negative from a golf fan from a personal experience.

I think you're missing my point. He is very good at displaying a certain public persona. That almost makes it worse. He is so damn good at being a phony.

The people who he deals with in real life while not being watched by the public think he is a giant choad.

I'm done talking about him though, no one can win this argument. Its like trying to have sex with whiskey dick. Futile.

Well I went to the extreme obviously. I don't think he is Hitler

I said he was a well known dick who did charitable things which was me trying to say that doing charitable things doesn't make you a good guy. I think you missed the point there.

See my previous post.

ETA:

And I've heard negative things from several PLAYERS on tour. He keeps his persona with fans.

I could see Phil Mickelson being a phoney. As far as good guys who no longer play I've talked to people who know Michael Chang, a former pro tennis player, and Devery Henderson and they are as good as can be. As far as Curt Shilling, I thought it was well known he's a prick? A coworker of mine was college buddies with Curtis Lofton for the Saints and said he is really laid back and a big nerd with play station or whatever it is kids play now.

If we're talking legit good dudes, I'm going with Alfred Morris. Everything I hear about this guy makes me wish he was a Saint.

I get your point, my point is that most people who put on a facade can't do it with modern media. It just isn't like the old days where bad people can seem good in the media (President excepted).

So, if Phil's facade is so good that we never see it crack, only hear about it from what tour players told people on message boards (and I'm not just talking about you), that's a legendary facade. At some point, if you're that good so much of the time, maybe he's not acting. Maybe he handles some people some way and handles others another way.

I just can't think of another example where a guy with almost no visible laundry in the public eye carries around these rumors of being a terrible human being.

Can look at that comment two ways. I see what you're saying though. I'm just going by what other players have told me about him. Maybe independently they all have the same stories and same opinions out of sheer jealousy.

I'm not even convinced what you're saying is untrue. But if you live 70% of your life like a saint and 30% like a douche, I don't know how to judge that. That may be overstating for Phil, but 99% of people who've met him at golf tournaments will say he is an angel. So will everyone who watches his course demeanor, etc.

It isn't a situation where Tiger or someone is 80% douche and 20% saint during photo opportunities. I just question whether we actually care if you can be a shitty guy if all your interactions with your fans are perfect.

My ex-FIL, who is good friends with some old ex-PGA Tour players, told me that Gary Player is a huge a-hole IRL, but he's got a "great guy" image.

Conrad Dobler

My MIL went to school with his paralyzed wife Joy.

quote:

The Doblers were enjoying a Fourth of July in 2001 when life changed for Conrad, wife Joy and their six children. Friends were coming over to the house, and he was cooking when Joy fell out of a hammock. "She said she couldn't feel anything," Conrad said. "We phoned 911. She's been a quadriplegic ever since. We've had to downsize. The business we have, providing temporary medical help to hospitals, used to be a lot larger than it is now. I've had to sell a lot of assets, [it's] everything I can possibly do to make it financially. Holli's tuition would have been a big ticket."

Really horrible accident. I never did like man boobs Phil, but that's cool he stepped up and paid for their daughter's schooling.
