If he really runs a 4.8 40 yard dash then Te'o will not be an every down linebacker in the NFL. He will basically become a backup linebacker or 2 down linebacker. TM has way more upside but is way more risky. You can hope to get TM late in the draft but odds are someone will take the risk and pick him before you if your a GM/ HC.

since Te'o will be taken several rounds earlier it really isnt much of a comparison

Not sure if serious? Vontaze Burfict and Brandon Spikes ran 5.1 at the combine. Last I checked, those guys were doing quite well as starters in the NFL.
TM is easily the riskier. At least Te'o has the size and measurables. TM is tiny for a DB.

Neither player will be in the NFL in three years.

Teo is more likely to be an average starter who gives you 7-8 years in the middle. Tyrann will be boom or bust, big playmaker or smoked out of the league

I think this question has more to do with where each player is projected to go rather than expectation.
With that in mind I would say Te'o because he is a lock to be getting a 1st or at worst 2nd round type of contract and quite frankly I don't think he will be a force in the NFL. Could be wrong though.
I don't see people projecting Mathieu too high and if anything he has an upper-hand because people expect less from him (note: I am not saying Mathieu is a bad player by any means but no one is going to use a 1st or 2nd round pick on the guy).

His 40 is way overblown.
His outside issue is similarily pretty innocuous when it comes to football.
If you watched him play this year, the dude is dedicated and passionate about football and shows a lot of heart on the field. I think he has the makings of being a pros pro and can improve.
Honey Badger has real focus and dedication issues - not to mention he's been out of football for a year ala Mike Williams and Clarett and wasn't a sure thing to translate well in the pros regardless.
It's an easy choice - Manti isn't that much of a risk at all if you scout him properly.

I'd choose gideon or Dav over either of them.

Te'o is good in coverage, so i'm not sure which 2 downs he gets...?
There is a lot of blind hate on here for manti, some of it is earned though from his mncg performance and the fake gf thing. I think the patriots would take him, but they face LBs already.
