Like I said, the LA racing commission are a bunch of crony clowns. They haven't went to bat for the horsemen/women for a VERY long time. It's nothing but a good ole boys club who are politically connected. Louisiana plus politics never produces results. I wish someone would buy the FG, and be one private owner, like the Cella's in Hot Springs. I seriously doubt it will happen in my lifetime because CDI isnt giving up slot revenue and what they skim from the Jazz Fest will ever happen.

Correct there's some people on the commission that cant spell Horse. Landry and his lawyer friend put there people on this board. And the HBPA is not any better. Only out for themselves.

Correct the slots and Jazz fest are a cash cow for CDI. They not giving that up. Good thing they cant sell the track to develop it or sell the track and keep the slots.

I dont know how all of this works but it seems like between bets on horse racing, sports betting, and slots, the various racinos around the state would have enough funds to guarantee decent pots for the horse racing. I am sure evangeline downs alone takes in many millions of dollars from the community in the casino alone.

I remember the BS they spewed when they were moving EVD from carencro to opelousas specifically to get the slot machines. the streets were going to be paved with gold in st landry parish. haha.

Slot machines, Sports betting, OTB parlors which have slots in every one of them and we cant keep up with Turfway or Oaklawn. Mind boggling..

yeah it is. I remember they were going to build a amusement park and water park "later on" when they were trying to get it approved for opelousas. That never happened.

Crazy thing is if they had built a RV park similar to cajun palms way back when they would have killed it and it would actually be a great location and also very useful to the horseman that stay in the area during racing season.

The facility can't be touched. It's registered as a historical landmark thanks to Ms Salmen

Correct CDI can only sell it to another company to continue to race there they cannot bulldoze it to make it a commercial site .

didnt see anything about the GP debate, but if the track get's to separate gaming from live racing, this will happen in more states.

i realize the 20? mil purchase of gp and land is now worth 2 billion, but Hialeah is where they need to move racing to.

you can get a boat load of grants for older, historical places. GP only brings in 60mil from gaming(cards, slots, etc), hialeah brings in 160mil per. They say all of the big bettors and money lives near Hialeah.

Shocked Fairgrounds doesn't try to get these grants, but cdi only cares about the gaming, not the actual track.

I'm not sure Hialeah owner (Brunetti) wants live racing.

Nothing wrong with the 6-2 yr old stakes in November and December. How do you expect breeders to breed horses if there's no money to run for or stakes money to run for? I don't see you complaining about the QH stake schedule for 2 yr olds. Half million dollar races for the Futurities.

Jason does a good job but ever thought he's handcuffed by his bosses in Louisville.

And purses should of been cut 10% across the board including stakes races.

Colonial (another Churchill property in that betting mecca called Virginia) announced its purses: 75K for MSW. People bet like maniacs in NOLA and we're 33% less. Why is Churchill so disinterested in Fair Grounds racing; and how are they getting away with this?
Re the 2yo statebred races, they are all 6F, all jammed into the last 6 week of the year; why not space them out nto the 3 year old season and increase the distances. There are only a few from Jan-March.
I believe the top 3YO Stakes Race for Fillies runs today.....paltry 100K purse.

Have to ask the LAHBPA about the purses. They are the ones setting the purse structure with some input from Churchill.

They do have two-3 yr old races for LA Breds going a route on Louisiana Derby Day

If they bet like "maniacs" , then why are the pools at FG so crappy? Simply look at the demographics. Broke arse bums that bet 10 cent supers with 6 horse fields. I only wager 3-4 times at that meet. With the exception of LA Derby day, the March condition book is godawful, because of the Delta meet is done. IMO, the FG is going to see a decrease of stall applications moving forward. The purses are better at Turfway, and it's getting difficult to run from a non HISA to a HISA regulated track.
