It used to drive me crazy they had that Celtics homer doing national games on CBS. One of the old school greats. RIP.

He was one of the great former athletes in all those Miller Lite commercials from the 70s and early 80s.

Gerry McNamara on Redeye Radio told a great story last night. He said when he was in high school back in the 1970s a friend and him got tickets to see a Celtics-Buffalo Braves game in Buffalo. They paid $12 for tickets two rows directly behind the Celtics bench. He said a guy in the row behind them was riding Heinsohn all game long. Just calling him every cuss word you can think of. Finally Heinsohn called a time out and he and the entire Celtics bench spent the entire time out giving McNamara and his friend the death stare because he thought they were the ones giving him shite. McNamara pointed behind him and told Heinsohn that it was the guy sitting behind them that was doing it and they hadn't said anything to him. Heinsohn kept giving McNamara the death stare and McNamara looked behind only to discover that the guy riding Heinsohn was no longer there. He was hiding under his seat. The only reason Heinsohn called the time out was to laser stare McNamara. He also kept a lit cigarette in his hand the entire time he was doing it.
