What I was saying is "not wearing a seatbelt" did not cause this tragedy.
I think some people are more concerned with effect instead of cause.
Everyone should wear a seatbelt, but I think we will find out this sad incident was caused by alcohol-impaired driving.

He did have hip surgery his senior year. Don't know if that contributed to his inability to make the Rams or not
I remember he was targeting the Senior Bowl as the time to get back into things that year.
I think he had some bone spurs in his hip and was also trying to recover from a torn labrum.
he was invited to the Senior Bowl. That week he did what he could but he could not practice or play because his doctors had still ruled him out.
I remember reading an article that he was projected as a 3rd or 4th round pick following the 2011 season. He decided to stay at Auburn for his senior season because getting the degree to him at the time was more important.

He basically played the role of FB and part time LT for Auburn in 2011. Bad recruiting and bad coaching from Jeff Grimes wore his body out because he was doing so much every play.

One of my buddies is really torn up about this. From what I understand he was a great kid. It's a damn shame that something like this happens. Had he not been injured this probably would not have happened.

the guy in the passenger seat was wearing his seat belt and walked away basically fine. he was the one that got help from a neighbor and called 911 and everything. the other 3 were apparently not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the car. the driver and phil in the back seat died and a girl in the back seat survived with some injuries.
phil signed with the rams after the draft but the hip issue as well as another injury (foot or ankle, i cant remember) contributed to not making the roster. he was working in alabama but i believe visiting friends in georgia for the weekend when the accident took place.

The highest honor I can pay him - as an opposing fan - was to be happy he graduated.
Other than $cam - McCalebb and Lutz were the 2 Auburn players of recent vintage that always seemed to have great games against us.
RIP you crazy Kraut tight end.

Man that really sucks. I always hated him because he'd play well against lsu. Hated him in an opposing fan type way. Seemed like a good guy. Really sad

Really liked the way he played. Being his age it really puts into perspective how precious life really is. Sad to see him gone so young.

He was definitely a throwback type player (and I mean that is the most postive way possible).

Curious if the two that passed were wearing seatbelts or not. Just one of those things I feel we should be enforcing a lot more. 23 is too young
I sure do hope you mean as parents and not with the police. As an adult, the police should have absolutely no bearing on whether or not you choose to wear your seatbelt or not. Im not trying to derail the thread but I cant stand this ingorance. I always had respect for the way he played and it seemed like he always came through for Auburn when they needed him.

Old school throwback. Utterly tragic.
