McRoberts could have been at that level, too. Unfortunately, he viewed himself as the second coming of Dirk Nowitzki, without the practice habits.
The more I watch Nolan Smith, his top 5 ESPNU ranking seems more and more ridiculous. He's a nice player, but he is an undersized 2 who can't run the point.
The team's athleticism is okay. Certainly not at UNC's level, but I think what is really holding Duke back is the lack of a dominant big man since Shelden. The top guys that K has targeted just don't want to come.

I remember all the Duke fans saying he would be a star.

LSU and Duke have the same number of tournament wins the past 4 years.

That isn't exactly an unreasonable expectation of a consensus top-5 national recruit. However, there are always recruits who don't pan out. His biggest weakness was that he didn't want to play down in the post. He really thought he was going to be a better ball-handling version of Dirk.

That's a very incomplete way to measure success.

So you're saying he was soft a la Kevin Garnot? I did think he had tremendous upside after his first year.

No
I think Garnett is probably the only player in the history of the NBA who can play like that. He is also one of the most intense guys in the game. McRoberts is just a worse version of Tim Thomas (another huge recruit, who never practiced hard enough to live up to his true potential).

Yeah, Tim Thomas had tremendous potential but always was a pick and pop guy, i'll never forget some of the shots he made during the Suns run in 2006 though.

I'm pretty sure that was in a contract year.
I always thought that if Tim Thomas actually gave a damn about basketball, he could have been in many All Star games.

Good ole Josh, aka a fellow member of my Carmel HS 05 class. His poor work ethic in hs sure paid off in college. He woulda been wise to go pro after his sr. year of hs. He won about every major award they had back then.
Now you can find him at the local bars with less females at his table than many of the local frat boys who were nerds in hs.

I take it his fling with LC didn't last long. I guess she isn't used to Skoal breath out in Laguna Beach.

He had a "me" complex I think that didn't fit in with the rest of the team. I once saw a day in the life of J.J. Reddick thing on ESPN. Reddick was like some sort of mentor to McRoberts and you could tell he didn't really like the guy that much.

During my senior year, McRoberts was very disliked by the student body, which must really say something about his character.
However, there was a walk-on that absolutely loved him and would do anything for him. I guess he was barking up the wrong tree
Here's a link: LC and McRoberts

That doesn't look anything like McRoberts.

The second photo looks exactly like McRoberts. Outside of basketball season, he always looked like a walking hangover and he didn't have the crew cut.
Redick did the same thing his first two years. The first time I saw him, I didn't even recognize him.

Your an idiot. I don't like duke that much but come on you don't know basketball. Your arguments are dumb. Coach k is one of the best
