Random thought after watching football today. If a QB, in an effort to stop the clock, approaches the line, snaps the ball and throws the ball directly into the ground, does that count as a pass attempt and if it does, should it?

I am thinking things like that should fall under a separate stat category and not go against a QB’s completion percentage. Especially when the QB is not even remotely attempting to complete a pass.

When Brees takes a knee 3 times to end a game, he gets 3 rushing attempts for -3 yards.
