You kidding. I got out shook for him at EVD his first race this meet.
I was in the 4th race Thursday and they ran him in the 6th race at 5 1/2 F where he finished 6th. I didn't understand that. I think he is a 7f to a mile horse.

Here is my way to fix the TC..
If your horse races in the Derby, you cannot skip the Preakness and enter a rested horse in the Belmont vs one that could be racing to complete the TC.

BHO by reading your post I can tell you know what you are talking about so do you think Chrome can get the 1 1/2. If Vivtor waits to the stretch to go he should be hard to catch. Right?

I guess what I don't get is how you don't put any stock on the fact that Victor didn't burn his horse up.
I do...I even said this to start my post, "Just because he's going up against a hell of a horse in CC, doesn't mean Ride on Curlin's close wasn't impressive."
quote:
He ran a hell of a race, but the only horses he passed were tired.
How can you say he ran a hell of a race and not say he closed well? On the last 3 furlongs, he blew away every horse not named California Chrome. That shouldn't discount his close considering there's a strong chance CC is going to coast to a triple crown in 3 weeks.
Fwiw, I doubt Ride on Curlin even places at Belmont. He exerted a ton of energy today and I think horses like Wicked Strong and Danza are going to be better at the 1 1/2

Damn, all sorts of gate craziness going on tonight in California

I think they ruined him. He was set up perfectly to win that first race of the claim from us. I can't remember if we ran 1st or 2nd in that one with cocodrie.
When I say he was sound, I can only say he was when he left us.
He is much better further. He was a sweetheart too.

By the way, ROC's jockey Joel Rosario's quote was he thought he had the winner turning for home, but then "he took off again."
That's exactly what I figured he said. Hell, I thought he was going to catch him. But as Rosario said, he had something left.

cocodrie is a nice horse too. He beat a horse I was doing flips to try to get and couldn't in Bayou Bandit.

Easily, he ran 2nd in a Grade I stakes race. You don't run 2nd if you didn't have a hell of a race. That doesn't mean he closed well. I have been on the phone since the race was over with my family and friends(that I would consider "horse" people) and 2 things were said by everyone of us.
1.Chrome was more impressive today than in the Derby
2.That "close" wasn't near as good as your casual observer would believe. Oh and today's race could have been a mile and a half to 3 miles, and ROC wouldn't have caught him.
ETA:As I said in my previous post, it's not hard to make a big move on the turn if the jockey on the horse you are chasing isn't asking yet. At the end of the day, he made back most of the ground that he lost early. Nothing more.

I don't see any reason why CC can't get the 1 1/2 miles. But to be fair, there have been plenty of horses that I thought would easily win the Belmont after impressing in the first two races and they didn't run a step. I don't know if you heard Bailey after the race, but he said it best. If Victor can get CC to relax and CC takes to the track, he's going to be really tough. As I said in a previous post, I really think today was much more impressive than the Derby.

Lost him too
I didn't own any part of him. I'm just the barn cheerleader. Got a horse show next weekend but I'm hoping to make it to evd for some of the big races.

Just claimed the winner of the 4th. Wish he would have run second to keep conditions but I got a replacement horse for mine that got claimed.
Objection take him down. Please.

Victor has ridden so many perfect races on him. He will be the difference maker in a race like the Belmont. He knows the horse so well.

His ride today was as good as you could ever ask for.
Back to the "close" thing. You want to see a big close?
Arazi in 91 BC Juvenile
Street Sense 2006 BC Juvenile
2007 KY Derby
2013 BC Juvenile Turf-Outstrip
These are closes. I could pull more but you should notice the difference.
ETA:Here is one that made me think of today. Not an exact recreation but watch Pleasantly Perfect in this. Makes a HUGE move on the turn, but the horse up front, well he's on another level.

I agree, that coupled with CC's acceleration at the top of the stretch. I've said it a few times in the past but he's got a good chance at the TC.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to see a triple crown? Not sure this horse has the distance anyway.

Really? What makes you say that? The fact that AP Indy is his grand daddy? Oh wait, AP Indy won the Belmont?

If I make it to keeneland this year you've gotta come hang out.
Posted on 5/17/14 at 7:53 pm to Aspercel
I can't take it. I've spent my entire life around a race track and some slap dick, that has seen 3 races all year, comes in claiming that they know something, with no facts to back it up. Then he will be in the Belmont thread telling us "he knew it".
