Player safety is so important, yet they allow players to not wear mouth pieces?

Maybe there's a medical or safety reason why one wouldn't?

It's required according to the rulebook but they do not enforce it at all

Same here, but I don't think Watson has one in, unless it's a lower teeth piece. At least two Ohio State defensive players didn't have one in at all.

The only other possible explanation would be that they have those clear thin mouth pieces that basketball players have taken a liking to.

Ohio State was charged a time out vs Michigan this year due to this at a pretty critical point.
