I don’t think the general pop hates collinsworths voice like this board does. I actually don’t mind it at all and my wife loves him (she’s a big football fan).

I think McVay is more objectively hard on the ears.

Did he not do the same thing Tony Romo did? I don't hear anything about him getting a big deal from CBS. Why does everyone think it's a guarantee that McVay would be good in the booth?

I mean yeah he was a broadcaster but the circumstances are wildly different and whether he’s good or not doesn’t really matter for him

Witten retired (while being old as shite already) and went in the booth and was terrible. He bolted back and played again the next season. Ultimately he didn’t really lose out on much, they were likely paying him similar if not more money than he would’ve made if he had played that season as he would’ve been on a vet min deal.

McVay is 36 and literally won a Super Bowl a week ago. Even if he’s complete dog shite in the booth, he can pick his next NFL job at any point and still collect the mountain of money that the network would pay to get him to leave the NFL to be a broadcaster. There’s no real downside outside of not coaching in the NFL for however long you want.

The amount of money that's thrown around this country for stupid jobs like this is insane.

I'm tuning into a game to watch my team play. I don't care who's announcing. I don't know anyone who tunes into an NFL game just because this guy or that is in the booth.

Not interested in the actual discussion of this thread other than to say “frick Peter King.”

At least his voice changed when he was middle school. McVay sounds a 10 year old boy

Tony Romo. CBS pays Romo $17.5 million a year to work about 20 games a year on TV.

My question honestly is why? I have never once turned to a game, or turned off a game, because of the broadcaster. That just doesn't add or subtract enough to make me change my viewing.

It must have an impact on a lot of people to throw this kind of money around

The NFL has always had great broadcasting teams, locally and nationally. It’s a pretty essential part of the sport given how much stoppage there is during a game

I’m sure most people don’t really notice the value of a broadcaster because it’s just kind of always there, but I’ve also watched big games on the “no announcer” broad cast they do for the National championship game and it is a completely different product. And while some like you may really enjoy that, most people wouldn’t want to do that.

As for why the salaries are so high, it’s because there’s only a handful of spots and even less talent to fill those spots and the companies who are competing for those spots are some of the richest companies on earth who want to create the best broadcasts possible, so that all things being equal- you choose them over their rivals.

To put it more simply, these networks aren’t hiring these guys to get you to watch the NFL, they are getting these guys to get you to watch the NFL on their network. That’s a big difference

I get it but there is only one game on fox at 4pm and in Dallas it's always the Cowboys with the same team. If you want to watch the Cowboys game you are stuck with that team.

Just seems like the broadcasting shouldn't be more valued than coaching the teams

You’re comparing two completely different jobs and markets. It’s apples and oranges.

The coaches are being valued at what they bring to a team on the field. It can quickly turn on you and there’s hundreds of other fresh faced coaches looking for the same job. Top of the market has been stagnant for a long time and it’s kept the overall salaries at an even pace compared to college numbers

The networks are competing for an extremely small amount of talent in the business (seriously there’s like 10 National guys and not all of them can do football or want to ). A guy seen as valuable in that area will have multiple billion dollar companies bidding for them to be the face of their billion dollar investment in the NFL

It’s simply supply and demand. It’s not about what you value it, it’s about what the market it’s in values it

Not every coach wants too nor will be good at being an analyst.

Mcvay can probably get close to 15 mil to coach the rams.

I think one person says something on here or online and everyone just repeats it.

I don't understand the collinsworth hate. Mcvay's voice is on a much different level.
