Just got an email from Pelican Point advertising an "under 40" membership starting as low as $149. Sounds like a pretty decent deal, no?

Covers green fees at the Links & Lakes Course
Complimentary range balls
Access to pool and Tennis facilities

No monthly food and drink minimums or annual assessments of any kind.

How does this compare to some other places in the area?

So, you have to golf 3-4 times a month there to make it worth it? Not bad. I wish I could get out there that often.

The pool access is great too. Mrs. Bunky would love that.

It's all about the facilities. The Oaks start at $255, all for the same stuff. However, our facilities are in much better shape than the Points. There is a reason it is so low...

Yeah I am thinking Mrs. Hat Tricks would as well and this would actually allow me to play even more golf.

- Drop her off at pool
- I play golf
- We both win

I did this last weekend at Carter, dropped Ms. kbdos off at the pool and then played front nine. Picked her up for lunch at the turn and then back to the pool for her while I hit the back.

Also, membership at Pelican Point includes this which seems like a pretty good deal:

quote:

The growth of Pelican Golf Club and the benefits each member receives has become more evident as Pelican Point has created the “Golf Trail of Louisiana”. The Golf Trail of Louisiana is a joint partnership which currently consists of Pelican Point Golf Club, Lakewood Golf Club, La Tour, Oak Harbour Golf Club and the Farm D'allie Golf Club.

This partnership will enable our Link’s Golf Members access to play these premier golf courses for $35 +tax including cart fees. Pelican Point is the only club in the Baton Rouge area affording its member access to 7 other fine golf courses.

You sure there isn't a cheaper option for younger guys?

I could have sworn there was something around 180 or so last time I checked

I think copper mill has something like 135 a month for under 35, but it's just too damn far from me

Looks as though there is an apprentice membership for 30 and under.

The Oaks

Yeah, but I'd rather beat my head against a brick wall than play The Oaks 4-6 times per month.

The course sucks.

$1700 for a BREC membership/year. Playing Santa Maria, Beaver Creek and occasionally Webb for much less than the Oaks is by far a better option. This is also cheaper than Pelican Pointe.

BREC Seven-Course Annual Pass Options

$1700 - Individual seven-day annual pass
$1450 - Individual four-day (Mon.-Thur.) annual pass
$2550 - Family seven-day annual pass
$2175 - Family four-day (Mon.-Thurs.) annual pass
$1350 - Senior/Junior seven-day annual pass
$1000 - Senior/Junior four-day (Mon.-Thurs.) annual pass
$2025 - Senior Couples seven-day annual pass
$1500 - Senior Couples four-day (Mon.-Thurs.) annual pass

This sounds like a good deal but it isn't THAT much cheaper. Yeah you get more courses but I think I can sell Mrs. Hat Tricks on Pelican Point more because of the location and pool access.

It depends on whether you are close enough to enjoy the pool and other amenities. If I had to lug everything in the car just to head to the pool, it wouldn't be worth it.

The oaks memberships include carts which seems to be pretty rare among other courses

Oaks at Sherwood Apprentice membership for those 30 and under is $160/month. Pretty good deal and I think they have a partnership with The Island and some other course for half off tee times.

True.

But even at $15/cart fee on average, you still come out ahead with SM, BC and Webb than the Oaks.

A golf membership is all about getting friends or knowing people where you join. You will get tired of playing by yourself so as good as it sounds, just make sure you either know some members or meet some before you join.
