According to Peter Abraham, Padres GM Kevin Towers has informed Jake Peavy that he will be traded and that the list of suitors has been narrowed down to three NL teams. Abraham says that in addition to the Braves and Cubs, the third team is believed to be the Cards or Astros. Ken Rosenthal has listed some of the names the Braves are offering. Yunel Escobar, either Jo-Jo Reyes or Charlie Morton and an unnamed player believed to be a top prospect. On a side note, free agent Ryan Dempster is looking for 5 years $70MM.

Not much. The owner thinks with the rotation that got 80+ wins will be legit next year. In reality theyll be a third place team at best. They want to Resign wolf, brocail and hawkins. Offer arbitration to guys like Valverde and Wigginton and find a veteran catcher thats not to pricey.

Sign Teixeira, move Berkman to RF, Pence to CF, problem solved.

that was a joke, no way Uncle Drayton pays for someone like Teixeira. Best-case, we get Sheets for the rotation and the rest of the team looks mostly the same.

Sheets would be a great addition if he can stay healthy.

The Astros have a long trade history with the Padres.

Peavy and Oswalt are best friends and hunting buddies.

I'm sure it won't happen, but there would be a remote chance. Drayton is a big fan of Oswalt's.

I'd say the Astros are the third most-likely trade destination, but the Padres want young pitching and the Astros traded all of that away for Jason jennings and Miguel Tejada. They would almost certainly have to include Pence in the deal, which isn't the end of the world, but if they trade pitching prospects who are close to ML ready, the farm system will be worse than gutted... it'll damn near be gone.

So... could it happen, sure. Likely... doubtful, unless the Padres change their mind and look for the hitting over the pitching.

Peavy's throwing motion has train wreck written all over it.

Just like Wade Miller, his motion is where the movement originates, so changing it is not possible.

I don't see the Astros making that move, but under the right circumstances, who knows.

I do think adding Sheets can only improve the staff. We are one starting pitcher away from being able to compete.

I'd love to see the Astros get Peavy but I'm just not convinced that he would get the Astros to the playoffs. You still have to rely on Wolf, Wandy and Moehler and I don't think they'll be good like last year. So I'm not really for trading away prospects we don't have.

The Astro's farm system sucks. I doubt they have the right deal for Peavy.

The deal would be Peavy to the Braves for Yunel Escobar, Gorkys Hernandez, and a pitching prospect not named Tommy Hanson. I would do this in a heartbeat.

trade Escobar, then offense/defense becomes a problem.

the pitching isnt that bad to begin with

you now have McCann, and and old Chipper Jones, who is almost done.

Ed wade wants mike Hampton. That's all you need to know about how much faith to have in astros personnel decision making this off season.
