An observation from life's experiences:
As in any board of Trustees there will be those who support Paterno, some who do not. As all bureaucrats do WHEN THEY HAVE AN AGENDA, they have 2 good reasons for doing anything they do...a good reason and the real reason.
We have heard the good reason, but not the real reason.
I am not saying that the actions taken should not have been taken, but they could have easily be done better and in a way in which the University would not have been divided. But, this was an opportunity for some with an agenda to "put it to Paterno", under the cover of a good reason.
There were many options:
since we do not really know whether or not Paterno kept following up with superiors during tat period of time..should/could he had done differently, of course, he said that.
Let's remember he is not the one that committed the act and we (nor the board) have all the facts yet....nor did the University allow JP to speak on the issue.
the board took the opportunity to get rid of JP who some have been wanting to get rid of for a while.
IMO the best one decision...
would have been to talk to Paterno and say..
this will be your last game...go ahead and announce it as if it YOUR idea.
...allowing for all to rally behind the team and the University....avoiding the division which now exist.
..did is the part that the Board did not want to happen as it would give JP "his day".
a little added note:
remember that he told the board that they should not be paying attention to him.
The concept that this game's actions would be too much of a distraction is bull...how about the riots.
Which would have been better for Penn St?
This is solely an excuse to get rid of JP today...Sat would have been good enough..
...there are other coaches on the staff with larger, more prominent roles in this.

Mike and Mike reported that Joe Pa will have a press conference to state exactly what McQueery told him regarding the shower incident with the little boy and Sandusky. Got a feeling Joe Pa is going to take alot of folks out with him.

he is too classy for that....but the truth will do the job you stated.

Insane that he is still employed and Joe Pa isnt. McQueery actually WITNESSED the incident and all he could do was call his father? Why not the University police? What was he thinking?

Really? Class is not what I would call Paterno at this point. Class is not turning a blind eye to what transpired.

I think he will tell the truth. The truth I think is deeper than anyone can even fathom. University police should be blown off that PSU campus right now. Im still amazed I havent heard Sandusky's name in 2 days regarding this scandel. Media has turned Joe Pa into a pariah overnight.

turning a blind eye and playing the information in the superior's hands is not the same...
Neither YOU, nor I know how often he may have inquired about this, nor what he was being told.
..it will come out in time. Let's not use this opportunity to assassinate someone because we do not like him.
"HE" said, he should have done things differently...hind sight is 20/20, but it is not the same as malicious intent.
Let's not be holier than thou.

Anyone listening to Mike and Mike? Bill Curry

You are not even worth replying to.
The evidence and facts are known. Enough that I CAN pass judgement.

In this thread? really? yes, we get it you're "enlightened."
hey! hey, everybody! look over here! jacks40 is posting something rebelious and enlightened. cool, huh? he's clearly intelligent and knows exactly when to remind us of our primitive crutches. obviously you've moved the needle on your meter for self worth to the right for today. it's all downhill from here...unless, unless you can figure a way to work your truly unique, and valuable perspective into, say, a madden 12 thread on the gaming board.

Is anyone else seeing this video on SportsCenter of the rioting by the students?

The Board of Trusties had no choice in this situation.

they had choices....not in the firing..you are right in that,
but when the firing would be effective.
....the decisions could have been made yesterday..same impact
with the results finalized on Sat.
everyone in the U would have understood much better the timeline, thus avoiding the divisions.

Where can I get the original story of what happened?

Watching the riots at Penn State, it is sad to think how many of those students really can't figure out right from wrong. I begin to worry more about out future. Then I read the posts from the folks on this board and almost 100% of them understand that this is not very complicated and know what the right thing to do is. Makes me realize we may be in good hands! Congrats to you guys for getting it right!

Why the frick are they going apeshit over Peterno being fired? It's a good thing. Dude has been keeping the program hostage and holding it back for years.

We should ALL be worried ... I'm 42 and I truly worry for my children's generation.
And in response to rbdallas, I never thought about his angle.
Is it POSSIBLE that JoePa did continue to ask the higher ups and is it POSSIBLE that there ARE BIGGER PLAYERS in this who wouldn't let it go forward? ESPECIALLY in light of what is said that will be going down later this week.
I just don't know ... shame on everyone.
