what did PBS do in the late 90's to go from a lowly football school to a powerhouse?
They got a good coach...and started a system. From when the kid starts playing all the way to high school, it's the same system.

Wow, guys. I come back the next day and it's a 4-page thread.
Some great stories here but only a couple of explanations for the turnaround in the late 90's.
What I'm getting is the EBR public school busing decision hurt the publics badly enough to help the privates schools. I can see that. But did other BR private schools benefit as well?
And did anything else contribute to it? No doubt Kenny G is a great coach but they began their transformation into a powerhouse before he came aboard.
Facilities were mentioned - were the facilities subpar before the late 90s? If so who decided to upgrade and spend money on them?

My brother played in the early 90s and I can remember as a kid that campus used to be shite compared to what it is now. Hell...where the main basketball court is used to be a playground. Facilities changed and that helped probably as much as the new coaching change.

Coach KG got here and completely changed the atmosphere and expectations of the program.
He got here in 99 and in 98 they went to the quarters but went 1-19 in 96&97.
He brought a great coaching staff with him and saw the athletes he had and made the most of them. He inherited a program with potential, they had money, parent support and support from the administration. The prior coaching staff was trying to run a spread offense without the brand of athletes to do it. KG brought the veer triple option to PBS and starting breeding MONSTER offensive lines. One of the biggest things KG did was have his DC/ S&C coach put in a college style offseason workout program and emphasize supplements to the players and became one of the strongest and best conditioned teams in the state(hence the common steroid accusation against PBS).
KG went to the 2nd round his 1st year and quarters his 2nd year and 15-0 his 3rd year and it has been on from there. 11 district championships, 4 dome trips and 3 state titles later alongside incredible facilities and a real structured program and you have the monster that PBS is today.

Also another thing is that after PBS has easily established itself as the flagship program of Baton Rouge that goes with it's great academics and it being a top notch school parents started sending their kids to PBS in droves. So they are getting their share of athletes.

I wish I still had my book from freshmen year. That workout thing was a BEAST. If anyone on here has it...I'd love to get my hands on it. May need to pay Jay a visit...

Man you Parkview guys sure do love yourselves.
Posted on 12/7/11 at 3:00 pm to RidiculousHype
they have an All Star program that indoctrinates (not a bad thing) youth into the fundementals of football, if they get a few from here and there because of it, so be it. Guillot got a good thing churning over there.

Parkview went 12-1 and made the quarters in 1997,
That one loss came from my alma mater. Chucky Son was supposed to be this great qb and we whipped that arse 48-0.
I think there was a huge intimidation factor since we were playing at home and had Labrandon.

Yeah my bad fellows, I had the years wrong.
I just know the 4/5 years before KG got there in 99 there were some really bad years.

I remember playing vs Parkview in basketball in late 90's one year we destroyed them, then the next two years Parkview basketball dynamics changed and we scrimmaged them and they whipped our arse.
Don't really keep up with high school sports, but does Parkview have a good basketball team anymore. Those few years in the late 90's they were wild.
