I coached in a state championship 5A game in the Superdome. What a crazy cool experience it was. But playing it at Tulane with a packed house would have been cooler. The Superdome swallowed the atmosphere.

Being at full capacity always makes for great environments.

Maybe but when you’re at full capacity, you wonder how many more people you can fit in…

26,500 since the late 1960s for sure.

It's highly likely that it's been that capacity since it was built.

The Saints donated the turf that was used for the 2023 season in the Superdome. Manufactured by Georgia-based Turf Nation, its value is estimated to be $486,000. It is being installed by Turf Alliance.

In reality this means the people of LA donated it.

Only a handful of games in the dome over the years have had crowds that weren't swallowed by the domes size.

Having been on the field for games at college fields(and dome) - it is a much better atmosphere(and much more user friendly for all participants, the dome staffing leaves much to be desired).

One of the best atmospheres I've witnessed for state championship games was 1975 St Aug Covington at SLU and NI and St aug at cajun field(also one of the best title games)

yes it was... but for 1940 state championship 34k were there when J beat HC.

the only thing I don't like is the stands are too far from the field. and they could use better locker rooms too.
