The Rose Bowl, and all BCS bowls are just on my list of things i'd like to do.
The night/mornings get quite cold, as Pasadena is at the foot of the mountains, but it is very pleasant by afternoon, and it's just a great scene altogether.
Hope you enjoy it and post some pics if you take any.
Cheers

this is part of our plans. We are going with people who live there and go every year, so we should get to experience the best of it, i hope.
i'll probably post pics during the game from my phone.

I am confused a little with you. So you say you live in the NW, but you said just a few mins ago that you are flying out from NOLA to PDX then driving down...
I haven't changed my location but I've recently moved to NOLA for a job.
quote:
How long have you lived in Oregon?
Lived there for 20 years, 27 in the NW.
quote:
And how long have you been going to UO football games?
22 years.
quote:
How long have you considered yourself a fan of UO?
Probably 20 years.
quote:
And if you don't mind me saying, I saw you type a while back, maybe a month ago or so, during the PAC title game, that you were a LSU guy first. Well, how then can you really consider yourself a true Duck then? That by definition makes you a bandwagon fan who has jumped on, but loyal to someone elts(LSU). However I will give you that you have traveled to UO games so that makes you a few notches up on a general bandwagon fan maybe or more devoted.
Call me what you want. LSU is my favorite team and who I was rooting for when the two teams played. I love football and back when I was a kid we didn't have internet or tigervision or every LSU game on TV.....I would be lucky to see one a year (we weren't so great then along with no internet or easy access to all sports). Anyway, so as a lover of football I needed to follow someone local so I could get my fix. Turns out, I have really grown with them and really like the team and know a lot about them. Back in the day I never thought the two teams would ever meet so it seemed perfect.
I have followed the Ducks longer than most REAL duck fans so it doesn't really matter to me what anyone thinks of me. I was going back when they sucked and my tickets were free because no one wanted to go.
Also, I may have been what you think is a bandwagon fan but I guarantee you I had the best tailgate setup than anyone. No one else had gumbo, ribs, chicken, and seafood like I did. Autzen can party a little but no one parties like LSU and that's who I learned from.
quote:
So is there something more to it? Like maybe you grew up in LA,
My mom's entire side of her family is from NOLA. Lived in NOLA until I was almost 8 and then moved to Albany, Oregon. I eventually ended up in Eugene/Springfield where I took the bus to games and looked for free tickets. I unlike many in Oregon am a diehard football fan.
quote:
A true Duck supports UO when they are doing good, and when doing bad
As I said, I've been following Oregon longer than most of the fans who have jumped on the bandwagon as of late or in the past ten years.

bleeds green and yellow
Can't do this but I'm as close as I can get.
quote:
I am going to have to revoke your UO fan card
How long have you been following them? From some of your many LONG posts I've read you don't seem very old and if it's true then you can't even hold my jock when it comes to watching Oregon football.

Thanks for answering all my questions. And I am being serious about a full report once you get back! It is so neat to hear other no biased peoples viewpoint that are not a part of you, ya know? You dont live in the PAC NW or on the West Coast so you experienced all that, I am really curious how your eyes interpret it. So really, it would be a joy to read your report of your trip and time down there when you get back!
The reason I went into detail and some history of the Rose Bowl was because ever since I have been on this site, almost a year now, I have seen TONS, and TONS of Rantards say comments like, "The Rose BOwl is pathetic, or Enjoy your pathetic little Rose Bowl, or the RB is nothing ect... And I thought that was the collective viewpoint of LSU fans that they did not have a clue about the RB and its great history. It seems you do however, so good for you. I hope you enjoy it. And I think your wife and you and your friends would have a blast at the RB parade too. I do not know if it is the oldest, or biggest parade in the Country but I believe it is something like that. Either way, very very special. And the only sucky thing about the RB this year is that it is not on the 1st as it normally is because the 1st is a Sunday this year and they cant because of NFL games on. So it will be a lessor thing maybe a lot because it is on a Monday and many people will be at work on Monday the 2nd. And the 2nd is not a holiday. SO I would venture to say the crowds for the parade, attraction around the game, everything, the whole festivities will be much less because it is not on a holiday this year.
Anyways, your a good guy. I hope you have fun!

Does "Badazz" mean absolutely hideous?

I'm not going to the Rose Parade.
I believe the UO alum party is there from 10-1. Have thought about heading over there. I'll be out there before 10 though I guarantee you that.
Current weather looks great, supposed to be 77 on gameday. Can't wait.
I'm a pic whore and will be doing both.

I went to the LSU-UW game a few years ago (another PHX contact that went to UW) and toured the campus and Seattle. Loved it. That place was ridiculously loud. Would like to see a game at Autzen someday. Love that part of the country.
Autzen is louder, you'd have fun. If you ever go let me know. I can tell you some places to check out. If you like the outdoors, I can tell you a lot of places you can check out.

yea, ill do that. Ive seen you posting before about going on hikes. I go on a yearly trip with some college friends to Aspen/Snowmass and hike a ridiculously tough trail to Snowmass Lake.
Thats something i'd like to do in the NW if i ever get back up there.

Wonder if the same guy in Oregon did it that does all the others? Nike has made that man rich. He's always busy.

he probably did. he does it for pretty much every school doesnt he?

Not sure but I would imagine so. At least I would assume he does all the new ones.
You never responded to my long post that answered your questions.

Definitely skip the parade. I haven't been but if you go, it means you miss out on the awesome tailgating on the golf course and probably have to hustle just to make the opening kickoff I believe. Sounds shitty.
I think out seats are tunnel 8, basically the same as the 2010 Rose Bowl. Hopefully a better outcome this time though
