I think they were actually from 2003 but publicized in 2009-10, along with him bringing his mistresses to the locker room to stare at Corey Magette while showering naked.

It was from the Elgin Baylor lawsuit and the publicizing of the housing discrimination suits.

What I'm saying though is the social media landscape has changed enormously even since 2010.

Shinn and McCourt were based on financial reasons though. This is totally different.

Also, there were other owners like the Maloof brothers going through similar financial struggles. Shinn being broke(relatively speaking) probably was a hard situation to get a consensus from other owners on.

This current situation has a chance of affecting the bottom line of other owners. I imagine that gettting the owners to agree on a course of action will be easier.

How so? I think it will be a lot harder since this is the only case other than Schott, which isn't about an owner being in financial trouble.

So Sterling's folks just released a statement basically blaming the mistress(while at the same time trying to hint that they aren't sure who was on the tape) and saying Sterling's actually an awesome guy who's also always been great friends with Magic Johnson.

I guess when the NBA has allowed your racism for decades, why take this seriously...

Because it has a strong chance of affecting the bottom line of the other owners.

How many national stories did u see about Shinn being a crappy owner?

Marc Cuban is fine with the Pelicans not spending and not being competitive, it helps the Mavs. Something like this though, with a new tv deal to be negotiated in the near future is something guys like Cuban won't stand for if they think it hurts them.

BUT maybe I'm wrong, Sterling has been owner for 30 years. He might have enough friends that just rationalize his behavior or are willing to defend him, regardless of the cost to the league.

These comments won't even hurt Sterlings bottom line, much less other owners.

Am I the only person that sees this more of a personal issue between him and this girl? He is tired of apparently her hanging out with only blacks. Not that blacks aren't allowed at the games.

Laughable. His wife is suing the sidechick. Not Donald Sterling. They're a "family" now, though.

quote:

"Mr. Sterling is emphatic that what is reflected on that recording is not consistent with, nor does it reflect his views, beliefs or feelings. It is the antithesis of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life

He feels terrible that such sentiments are being attributed to him and apologizes to anyone who might have been hurt by them
"...sentiments being attributed to him." Really?

quote:

"He is also upset and apologizes for sentiments attributed to him about Earvin Johnson. He has long considered Magic a friend and has only the utmost respect and admiration for him -- both in terms of who he is and what he has achieved. We are investigating this matter."
Somebody tell Magic they're still best friends.

May have already been discussed in this thread. . . But is it a crime to be a racist? I mean, can the league or anyone else do anything to Sterling? Fine him, maybe. But I can't imagine much else. They sure as hell can't kick him out of the league. . . He owns the team, after all.

Sterling story is the lead story on CBS evening news. The momentum is building.

This is gold. The media is going to make this the biggest story since OJ. If the roles were reversed you wouldn't hear a peep.

Conduct detrimental to the league.

You get the irony is these two statements next to each other right?

I guess that's a possibility but it seems like at least in the a short term you could see some pushback from general public if the NBA does nothing.

Ok let me rephrase that.
The media is going to make this the biggest story since Trayvon Martin. If the roles were reversed you wouldn't hear a peep.

Better?

No you can't be the only person with that view.

I'm sure there are some klansmen and grand wizards that agree with you that he just thinks she should expand her social circle and there is nothing racial about it at all.
