A buddy went through our local shop to send to PSA like we normally do but he didnt get his order in before last Friday's cutoff date. His bundle went from $650 to almost $2000. He isnt paying that. How many people will?

You have to buy from a distributor, if shop. A shop if you don't know someone there will charge to buy from them at cost + markup.

You can buy cases online from most shops, charm city cards is an example.

Expect to pay 4-6k for a decent case of hobby anything.

Where are you located?

Edt: I can get you some from a friend who owns a shop, if really interested.

Agree, why I always focused on Contender auto rookies for football.

Like I said, I’m a casual collector. I like too many sports and teams to focus in and drop lots of money. I collect Spurs, LSU, and pretty much all MLB. I’ll get some in-person autos at minor league games here in town.

I’ve got some nice graphs from Tatis, Trout, Altuve, Bryant, Bellinger, Kluber, Lemahieu, Blackmon, Bergman, Springer, and even guys like Roger Clemens and Nolan Ryan. All those just by going to some minor league games. I hate the Astros, but that’s who this city feeds, so I end up with lots of their stuff.

For me, sometimes it’s about quantity and chasing certain rookies. I don’t do this to make money, but I enjoy trading stuff. I treat it as a hobby, not the stock market. That’s why the boom hasn’t been fun for me. It’s so hard to find stuff.

There is a $4000 hobby box on the panini site right now. The state of the hobby is fricked. Panini is flooding the market with product, the 19-20 rookie class has been rokkies for it seems like 3 years now. They will be responsible for the crash that is coming. It's coming pretty soon I think within the next 6-12 months. The prices are just not sustainable at the current rate. Hobby boxes that were $100-$150 just 2-3 years ago are now $1500-$2000, it's insanity.

There are a few cases breaker that I follow on instagram when they do case breaks every day and they are all legit and only deal in high end cards for the most part.

@jaspysbreaks
@rizosports
@mambacards
@snappinpacks
@goated_cardz
@deepfriedbreaks (Birmingham, AL guy)

Like I said, you can’t even buy a damn retail box at Target.

The guys like Phil Hughes have screwed some people up. There’s people who think they’re ‘investing’ for retirement. It’s stupid and careless. If some schmuck loses $10K because he’s chasing a Fernando Tatis rookie, that’s on him.

When the market crashes, guys like me can continue to enjoy the hobby the way we always have.

too fricking expensive to get into, I think. I made a little money last year but buying $600-700 basketball hobby boxes and getting a $50 Coby White card out of it sucks big time. It's a lot of work

A few football hits I had.

Bought this on eBay with proceeds then flipped for $700 profit a few months later

It wasn’t fun though. Only buy the boxes if you can get them for close to the retail price. Most shops are marking up the boxes big time if it’s not the first week of release. Especially basketball

I just buy autos of my baseball team. Fortunately, my the Rangers are awful so I never need to spend a lot.

The reason the downtown Tom Brady is that much is two fold. 1. He’s the goat coming off 7th Championship. 2. It’s Optic and a downtown card which is an insert that you might get one every two cases and it’s extremely limited and rare.

You would have been better to sit on the sealed wax for a year and then offloaded it. Tons of people just buying boxes and not opening them. You just need a big bankroll to do it.

One of the more insane things to me has been the amount of regular base cards, rookies specifically, being graded and sold for 1k plus.

There is nothing unique or iconic about a Zion base prizm rookie. Yet a PSA 10 sells for $700 right now.

i get it, but i dont collect inserts outside of autos. they are just goofy.

Atlanta Sports Cards, Blowout Cards, and Dave And Adams are other distributors you can buy from.

You are in the minority here. There are tons of people who collect the inserts especially the Downtown inserts because they are so rare. In many cases the inserts sell even better then the base cards.
