Having been in University admin, I can tell you that there were whole committees and countless wasted man-hours on this.

whats funny is I bet if it was reversed (went from all black letters to black letters with white in the middle) people would have ripped it too
this logo is just going to be cleaner and easier to put in graphics and on gear...its all about branding
I think the current logo looks like shite when it's tiny...the new one will look a lot better on small graphics and such

it's bold more pronounced. It pops and catches the eye being that it's darker (red) and that ohiostate is filled in
