Dustin Johnson can pound it too
I'm not sure he has the short game for Augusta.
I posted this on the last page, just wanted to bring it to the top of this one, thought it was pretty interesting.

ETA: I think you have to be a pretty long player to win at the current Augusta set up. It plays almost 7500 yards. Outside of Trevor Immelman and Zach Johnson The last 8 winners or so have been long hitters.
Just looked Immelman was 4th in driving distance that week, and Zach Johnson won with an over par score for the week. So I treat that as a fluke.
I think you have to go all the way back to Mike Weir to find a short hitter that has won in the last 12 years, and even then the course wasn't at its current length.
So basically you have to be long and have a REALLY good short game.

I completely agree, I threw in DJ for prostyle's hypothetical-rain situation. If Augusta gets wet the false-fronts and drop offs from the greens won't be nearly as fast or intimidating. IMO when it rains the true ball-strikers usually get confident because it takes scrambling out of the thought process.

I semi agree with this, the greens are less challenging, but players are taking longer shots into the greens because the course plays longer.

I think perspective is needed here. When a less challenging green is like the side of a mountain and is running a 12 on the stimp, it's still hard as frick.

Oh I agree, but soft greens are easier to play on than rockhard greens. That's what I meant.
Instead of a 10 out of 10, they become 7-8 out of 10

It always comes down to course management, IMO it's just easier to manage a course (especially like Augusta) when it's damp and you can go straight at it

What time should we see pairings come out today?
Anyone know?

DJ doesn't have the short game for anywhere.

No offense MrCoachKlein...but it's easier to manage any course when it's damp! If you can throw a 7-iron a certain yardage and get it to stop within 10 ft. then it's going to be easier no matter where you play!

Why did Ryo get an invite? I was scrolling through the invites on the Masters website and he didnt have a certian reason to be invited... seems like that invite could have been used better(cough, Ernie, cough)

I'm not sure, but I would guess sometime early afternoon? Maybe after or around the major player press conferences.
Also about the special invite, I just read last night that Ernie said he would turn it down even if they offered this year.

i would assume he's setting up shop across the front gates again in the run down shopping center, last year Daly was posted up in his motor home selling John Daly merchandise.
