Tomic are both big guys with big serves and powerful forehands
Tomic is the furthest thing away from what I would consider a "big hitter." Every time the kid is on TV, they talk about his unique/odd style of junk ball/pushing etc. Sure, when he whacks his forehand, he can hit it pretty good. But every pro on this level can take a pretty big swing from that side. Tomic simply doesn't do it as much as many of the others in the top 100.
And I wouldn't consider Karlovic a "big hitter" either. I would say he's a "big server." Outside of that, his groundstrokes are more on the 5.5 - 6.0 level.
Contrast thoughts two with players like Berdych and Del Po...those two are "big guys" who are "big hitters" on not only their serves, but also on both wings. And those are two guys, in particular, that Fed has had trouble with over the years. He has rarely had trouble with Karlovic (simply about getting that one break) and easily cruised by Tomic.

Pretty embarrassing for Djokovic to lose a set and be in a dogfight against Hewitt who is in the advanced stage of his career. He can't expect to win playing like this against a fresh Murray and Nadal/Federer.

Tsonga is another guy I would classify as a big hitter who has given Fed trouble over the past few years. And no, Ivo and Tomic are not the type I was referring to.

That was anything but a dogfight. He seemed to lose some interest after the first 2 sets. Djokovic is a fricking beast. The guy is like an artist out there. He might be the most amazing player Ive ever watched.

Rough start. Hopefully Woz settles down. She has to make more first serves or this match could get ugly....

Thanks for the info. Just turned off the debate and tuning in now.

The Woz looking rattled and rough.
Kim being the aggressor and Caroline is being very defensive on every...single....point. If Mrs. Clijsters continues this play, she'll win the whole thing undoubtedly. She is so easy to like too; her personality is even better than her tennis.

Just has to do with that big breath and built up energy before the hit. After they connect they release it. Same concept (although different) in martial arts -- the "high-yah" you hear is the leftover energy and strength being released. So I read
FTR, I have been known to make the same sounds taking dumps. After a big push...."ughayuh!"

I hope Clijsters closes this thing out soon. I want to catch some of Delpo/Fed before I have to go to sleep
