Because, athletically, he's incredible. And some teams are willing to risk it. Just as the Panthers did with Cam Newton.

Speaking as someone who has been around the game my whole life, I played JUCO ball no big shot by any means, Baseball has gone backwards in the past from what is the right and wrong way to do things. I got coached growing up by a guy who knew his stuff and was teaching us the same things they were teaching throughout all levels of baseball in the 90s half goal post all that stuff. They don't teach it like that anymore, too much strain on the elbow and shoulder, I think the prime example is Tim Lincecum. What he does is going to change the game of baseball just wait 10-15 years down the road. It's astonishing to me that guys were throwing the innings they were 40-80 years ago and how that completely deteriorated into what it is now. Can you think of any other sport that went backwards in the increase of what the human body achieve other then innings pitched in baseball? Mark Prior was said to have "perfect mechanics" we see where that got him.

To be fair, the guy that labeled Prior as having the 'perfect mechanics' was his pitching coach who taught him those mechanics.

His personality will certainly piss off the old school baseball scout crowd, I'm interested to see where he goes

Old school baseball scouts give a shite about talent and little else. Look at Lincecum. Bauer throws mid 90s and is nasty. He will do just fine.

Why don't you tell me why he went behind Greg Reynolds, Brad Lincoln, Andrew Miller, and Brandon Morrow?

Drafted Jeff Clement instead of Tulowitzki, Zimmerman, and Evan Longoria.

Traded Adam Jones for Erik Bedard. Traded Asdrubal Cabrera and Shin Soo-Choo for Ben Broussard and Eduardo Perez.

Those are some pretty epic screw-ups over the last 5 years or so.

Haha sorry typing everything out on my phone didn't want to rant on anymore, I mean the way they are teaching kids to throw a baseball is different now. More of using the entire body and putting less strain on the arm, I think we will see average innings pitched rise in 10-15 years. And the main reason is so many people doubted Lincecum because of his funky delivery. That funky delivery was created by his dad who was a major league scout or pitching coach I don't remember off the top of my head.

lol I never claimed to know what was right or wrong, I just know the mechanics being taught in the 80s and 90s led to a lot of arm problems for a lot of big name guys and they aren't teaching the same mechanics anymore, Atleast from what I've seen personally.

well yea, but the lincecum frickup was especially bad...kid born just outside seattle, played college ball at washington, and was thought to be a lock for the M's to pick

The drafting Clement out of need was worse IMO, but I know what you're saying with the local angle. I remember being prepared for the M's not to draft Lincecum, there were plenty of rumors that Bavasi and company liked multiple guys over Lincecum.

possibly, but LOTS of college kids make it through college feeling like a million bucks. Throwing once every seven days is easy.

You move that up to every five days and it's a whole new world. Look at Japanese pitchers that come over here. It's completely different.

One thing these college all-stars can't adjust to is manning up in the bigs when some monsters hits a line drive off their shoulder. frickers always have to go to the DL and sit on their arse instead of working through it.
