Not sure where to put this: The old school NASCAR bubble goggles were discontinued

This feels like it needs a thread somewhere on the Internet. The bubble googles used in NASCAR for decades were discontinued by manufacturer Paulson. Nobody else makes them. If you find a pair they are great for ATV or horse riding, or shooting.

Did Earnhardt use those up until his final race?

He must've been one of the last ones because after that NASCAR mandated the full face helmets correct?

They mandated the full face helmets after his death. The Hans was encouraged but not required at first.

Jimmie Spencer and I think some others used open face after Sr. checked out.

I thought they were discontinued a long time ago tbh.
They looked badass, but I actually love the look of the modern helmets even more.

Jimmie Spencer
Well, he was "Mr. Excitement", so he could do that.

I stand corrected. It looks like sometime in 02-04 they were banned. I remember the fall Talladega race when they mandated the HANS device. Tony Stewart was slightly opposed to it and made a big deal about it before going to practice. He said he would wear the Hans but not a helmet because he didn’t see any rules about that....typical smoke
