There are veteran catchers -- at heightened risk for CTE -- who privately say they appreciate and like the home-plate collision rule.

and im sure they do. i fully support the intention of the law. its just tricky to actually see something like tonight happen. because you really cant gives these catchers any leeway or else culberson would have snapped contreras' leg in half

Will this now be a precedent? Sorry, didn't know the rules changed but if umpires start looking for this it's BS

Is there some kind of shin condition we dont know about? Would make sense why they changed the stupid rule about sliding into second.

y'all would be so mad if he broke Contreras' leg, wanting the runner thrown out and suspended and shite. Everybody knows the rule, don't be a baby about it now because it went against the Cubs.

It was a natural movement. How should he have tried to contort himself to make the play? Cirque du soleil?

Wasn't there a play just like this in a WS or LCS in late 80's or early 90's that decided the series? I'm thinking Twins or Braves

Its a frickin stupid rule. You are a catcher, its not like you are unaware that something like could happen

You're right. Contreras should have known, as a catcher, that he can't block the plate like he did. Blame him for doing it anyway, or for not knowing the rules. Bad look either way.

So you don't allow the catcher to make a base for balance? He's just supposed to stay straight legged and reach across with no leverage?

im in agreement that i dont like seeing how that play ended up and it sucks that it potentially played a major part in this game. but i wouldnt call that a natural movement. contreras knew what he was doing

Good point, Utley would have slid spikes up and taken the leg out.

Being at Dodger Stadium when Jansen comes in and they crank California Love on the PA is so awesome.
