I was watching a 60 minutes segement on "Walking away" from your house even though you can afford it...main culprit? Phoenix area...Glendale is getting hammered right now and I just don' think if Glendale is running a 15 million dollar deficit on their own each year why they would be able to convince ratepayers why they should double that amount for a hockey team....now compare that market to winnipeg with a dollar at par and oil and gas reserves that are only now being used; and most of all a fanbase that has never let go of the Jets...Even to the point of supporting Anaheim cause of Selanne...win win...betmman punched in face by Glendale Mayor would be sweeeet though...

Is the Coyotes to Winnipeg deal really a possibility?

Wow...I consider that great news. I guess being a sucker for the way it was doesn't help.

As soon as I read that i started thinking the Thrashers should go to. Expansion in the Sun Belt just oversaturated the market. Nashville was one thing, but Carolina? Atlanta? Having the Panthers and the Lightning in the Southeast wasn't enough?

Speaking of which, why the hell did the Whalers move? I loved that old logo, haha.

I would love to see a team go back to Winnipeg and assume the name of the Jets.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Thrashers take off and get hockey back into Quebec. Putting a team in Toronto or Hamilton could possibly hurt the Sabres, which would truly be a shame. Buffalo deserves and needs that time. With a city that seems to be spiraling down, their sports franchises are the saving grace for those people. Toronto doesn't need a second team...

I'll defend Carolina getting a team. That's a big population with lots of snowbirds. They can support a team.

The whalers moved because, our fond memories aside, no one supported that team. Terrible franchise that never fielded a decent team and horribly marketed (they essentially ceded south Connecticut to the Rangers).

Hamilton and Winnipeg is what I keep hearing, though. That would be cool.

Clearly the West. The quality of hockey is not even on the same planet, outside of the Penguins.

I'm not sure I agree with this statement. The west may have more talent and finesse players but where's the physicality and checking like the east has? I believe the East is a much tougher conference to reach the Cup finals. But the West will probably produce the cup winner this year.

And who would not like to punch bettman in the da face? I do agree that Canada deserves more NHL teams especially the ones that are currently struggling. No way should the NHL be expanding!

6000 people from Canada are season ticket holders for the Sabres, I admit I have a soft spot for Buffalo but whoever gets the 2nd team for Toronto and it's going to happen will end up paying upwards of 25mil to Buffao and 40-50 to my team the Toronto Maple Leafs, there is waaaay to much $$$ in Toronto and with a population of upwards of 7.5 million in the Greater Toronto Area they will get a second team....genies out of the bottle on this one....

25 mil. to Buffalo makes no difference to the fan base that wants the team though. It would help the ownership, but that is it. I don't think this effects the Leafs nearly as much as it hurts the Sabres...not sure why, but I have that feeling.

Could anyone imagine Buffalo without a hockey team? Or am I overreacting to all of this?

Gary Buttface and John Daley have visited QC and Winnipeg together and apart 3 times the last 3 months...I see relocation for those two...I predict Hamilton is a dead issue it will more likely be Toronto for expansion...

Quebec and Winnipeg are the way to go. It be really awesome if they revived the old logos, unis, etc, etc. No need to have that shite stay dead for some newer, modern mascot like Thrashers, Predators, Hurricanes, etc.

This also buys the NHL some much needed good publicity in Canada...But there is just too much money in Toronto...NY/NJ have 3 teams between them and Toronto IMHO is mecca for hockey, the Hall of Fame is there and sooo many people would buy seasons tickets if they didnt cap them it would just be season tickets sell outs from now till they stop playing hockey....

I am not doubting Toronto's ability to support a second team. If Chicago, LA, and NY are capable of supporting two teams in major sports leagues, then Montreal and Toronto can do it. The NHL just slapped Canada's medium markets in the face. They will never take teams away from say, Vancouver, Edmonton, or Calgary...there is too much support out west for those squads.

Generally speaking, aside from my fanhood for the Canucks, I pull for any Canadian franchises out west. I am not too fond of Montreal or Toronto, but whatever...it's nice to see the teams north of the border for me, over teams like the Kings, Panthers, Preds, etc, etc.

Also...the Islanders need to get their shite together and get an arena deal done. The Nassau Coliseum is in shambles from what I have heard. That's a shame for a once proud franchise too.

No way anyone buys the Islanders..Wanger has too many crazy 40 yr contracts to get out from under...though JT is gonna be a great one.... Manitoba is a "Have" province now and Canada's economy is growing faster than any other industrialized nation on earth...I dunno but the NHL owners are gonna get might fricken tired of pitching in a million each to keep Phoenix afloat...

I got a soft spot for the Sabres. The ex-gf got my turned on to them. She was from Buffalo...and they have legit fans. It's easy to like a team like that...so I pull for them in the East...and I don't think I have to worry about a cup matchup with them and Vancouver.

I just think it is a shame (along with many other people) that places like New York (with the Islanders), Winnipeg, Quebec, are in trouble or without a franchise. The game is not a southern game.

Bettman was a dumb frick for adding so many teams in such a hasty manner. Seriously...do Nashville, Atlanta, Raleigh, Phoenix all need teams? This is after Miami, Tampa, San Jose, Anaheim all receive them. This is after the Stars move to Dallas. I just think it was not the smartest move.

I can understand a few of those cities...but once mid-size markets like Nashville receive franchises, you know something isn't right with that picture.

IMO: There needs to be two teams in the area with Tampa, Atlanta, and Miami. Phoenix needs to move back to Canada. I suppose Nashville and Carolina are okay for now. I don't understand why Los Angeles needs two hockey teams.

I almost think contraction is the way to go if anything.

The problem for the league is that Gary Buttman sold them on the idea of Sunbelt expansion not only for the franchise fees but supposedly for a big new National TV contract..In the interim we have had a lock-out and lost the ESPN contract...Its a joke, if I had a manager run my business like the way the NHL has been run the last 18 years I'd be out of business...Gary has to spin this properly; he's the one that didn't want Jim Balsille to own a franchise; this is a billionaire owner and CEO of RIM who sponsors the league or did until Bettman and the boys pissed him off. No The NHL would rather do business with crooks (Boots Bettaglia etc etc) than admit when they are wrong...but as long as Gary's playing with house money he makes the rules, but this time with Ken Thompson its different last I looked this guy owns the LA times and about 60 other major newspapers and tv stations in the US and Canada Piss hi off and Gary will buy himself a bunch of publicity....

Right on, I would like to think so as well. But 6000 season tickets is a bunch. I think winnipeg or anywhere else in southern ontario would get a team before toronto recevied another.
