wrote, Weber won't be GM. Nor will Shinn's son, Chad, according to a source. Pritchard sounding like frontrunner.

To end the speculation: team prez Hugh Weber will not be a candidate for GM in NO, according 2 source. Team expects to fill GM spot shortly.

Why wait until after free agency begins? We already have uncertainty about ownership (when will it be completed?) and now we have no GM. I'm glad he's gone, I just wish the timing was better
Would it have really made a difference? We still have most of the same options as before and IMO the moves on draft night were a good thing.

I won't believe Pritchard is in the running until he's our GM, though.

Well whatever we do, make it fast. Any player moves or free agency action needs some stability in the front office....whatever it is we decide to do.

I think Kevin Pritchard is going to sit this one out and wait for either the Warriors or Knicks job to open up.

2 of the few organizations more dysfunctional than the Hornets.

A lot of the NBA guys like Bower, the Shinns will take a bit of a beating shortly.

LAS VEGAS - It's getting even more bizarre down on the Bayou, as the New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have "parted ways" with general manager Jeff Bower.
Bower spent 14 seasons with the Hornets, becoming the team's general manager in 2002 after serving a variety of roles within the organization. His departure was sudden but not entirely unexpected, as he had been a candidate for the general manager vacancy in New Jersey before withdrawing his name. League sources told FanHouse that former Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard will be a strong candidate to replace him. He was fired by the Blazers on draft night in June, and would surely be interested in reuniting with former Blazers assistant and first-year Hornets head coach Monty Williams.
Pritchard is a candidate for the New Jersey opening as well, as is - according to a league source - former Philadelphia general manager Billy King. But King and former Cleveland general manager Danny Ferry reportedly have the inside track on that job, perhaps prompting Pritchard to eye this one.
Other likely candidates are former Phoenix assistant general manager David Griffin, Denver vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien, and former Golden State general manager Chris Mullin. Williams is expected to be very involved in the hiring.
The Hornets - who expect to fill the position soon - become the fourth team with a general manager opening, joining the Nets, Phoenix, and Blazers. The organization is badly in need of a solid hire, as they continue to face uncertainty at every turn.
The long-awaited ownership change from George Shinn to Gary Chouest has yet to transpire, even after it was expected to be finalized in late April. There is mounting pressure to trade point guard Chris Paul as well, as the three-time All-Star has made it known publicly and privately that his patience is waning with the team's lack of direction.
But even as Bower had discussed trade scenarios with Paul with various teams - including Orlando and, coincidentally, Portland during Pritchard's time there - team president Hugh Weber was adamant that Paul would not be dealt. It appears that was a significant issue between the two men. The Hornets are hoping to regain Paul's confidence with this hire, making a statement to him that they are serious about winning a championship and adding the right people for the job. LINK

Looks like Uncle Hugh has a real attatchment to CP.

Danny Ferry would be a good choice, anyone would be better than Bower. Ask Paul his imput like with Monty Williams that way he can't accuse the Hornets of not having his imput

You let Chris decide who'll be GM and we're liable to end up with C.J fricking Paul as GM. You can't let him make decision.

agree
Chris Mullin would also be worse than Bower...either the Hornets will hire a younger guy or go in house.

At this point if CP3 doesn't make a decision on whether or not to stay in N.O. then we might as well trade him now.
Let's not end up like Cleveland & Toronto and not get anything back in return for our superstar

Sounds like Bower saw the writing on the wall with Paul and Weber/Shinn wouldn't give up.

Agreed.
And as much as Bower was a mediocre GM, Weber is delusional if he thinks CP3 will not walk at the end of his deal, regardless of what he may say or insinuate about the Hornets ownership and/or making some productive moves to the roster. CP3 is gone, sooner or later, the Hornets best not be left holding their johnsons at the end of his deal!
Make a solid pitch to NYK and NJN. These two need CP3's off-court talents in recruiting players, as much as they do his on-court talent. Get the Russian and Dolan into a bidding war!
Right now, based off the comments the other night, made in front of the Nuggets owner at that party, is that he whom has CP3 in NY/NJ, is the leader for Melo when his contract expires.

Fire Hugh Weber while you're at it and hire Karl Malone
