Hate it. Numbers game at WR but giving away a weapon for pennies to another AFC contender

Seems like an insane trade. Idk maybe there is something that NE knows that we don't.

They’ve been trying to trade him for a while and gotten no bitters. Boutte also requested a trade so he can get more volume ahead of free agency next year. For whatever reason, teams don’t value Boutte that highly. Which is why it’s silly for the pats to trade him for scraps. Much more valuable on the roster than off

Some teams probably still have him flagged for his college issues but he’s grown a ton since then and has been a standup dude on and off the field with the pats. They just know he’s walking after this year and they had 7 WRs and likely only 6 spots to hand out. If it were me I would’ve found a way to make the roster numbers work.

Thanks for breaking it down. That makes more sense. He just seems like a legit wr2 that is on the upswing of his career, and trading him for a '25 6th round pick that hardly contributed last season, and a future 7th seems crazy, regardless. Is NE lacking at safety?

Not really. Saw some suggest they may try him more at Nickel or in the box as a run defender. That’s what makes it an odder move, could’ve used a LB/Edge or interior Oline flyer on the return rather than another Safety. And it’s a 2028 pick so it’s the same return (if not less) than you would’ve gotten had he walked and gotten a comp pick eligible contract

Probably aren’t a great offense if he’s your WR2 but he also is a bit overqualified as a WR3.
