If you think the league rigs it for matchups then why are the Pacers in the east finals over the Knicks?

Memphis, SA, Indiana in the conference finals. Makes sense because these are big markets.

During the 35 year Stern Era, name the finals that didn't include:

a top-three market team
the Celtics
a team led by LeBron James

There are like 3 or 4 max. I can remember

Pistons/Blazers
Rockets/Magic

Any others?

It's amazing how many times those good teams "miraculously" wind up in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston.

Good players like to play in big markets to maximize their income and fame? Color me shocked

this is mainly LA and boston

boston had that crazy run when the NBA was young with russell and company...then they had an 80s run that wasn't that weird. the big weird thing was the mchale/parish trade, but that was just a bad trade as best i can tell. when they made their "big 3" a few years ago, they did the standard "trade young asset/cap room for aging star" routine. the sonics got jeff green and cap space. the wolves got cap space and al jefferson. nothing weird there

chicago had its run when it got jordan and company. it's not some storied franchise with this history back to the 60s. it just happened to build the best core after the lakers/celtics run in the 80s.their current group was built through the draft and a couple FA signings (namely boozer). their biggest coup was hiring thibodeau

new york hasn't won a title in forever. their last finals run was thta scrappy 7 or 8 seed in the lockout year. they made it one other time in the "modern" era, and lost to the rockets. they've been shitty more than great the past 10-15 years

now the lakers? yeah they use their natural advantages to get guys

I don't believe entire games/series are rigged for one team or another, but I believe that refs are instructed to call games a certain way to keep it a competitive game/series unless one team is completely outmatched anyway.

So it's rigged? Thank you.

I completely when the league made Memphis trade Pau Gasol for nothing to avoid a New Orleans/San Antonio nightmare. Yes, Marc miraculously got good, but that trade was truly ridiculous.

Explain San Antonio's 4 championships. Stern rigged the lottery for them when Robinson and Duncan were coming out?

I will explain when they explain how the Knicks got to that championship series against the Spurs as an 8-seed, effectively avoiding the same Spurs/Pacers final everybody is dreading now.

Don't forget Stern rigging the lottery for Oden and Durant, making them go to the Pacific NW where everyone will be sleeping when their games come on.

that trade was standard "good expensive players for young player, cap space, and picks"

very few people thought pau gasol was elite when he was traded. he had made 1 all star game and was mocked (b/c he got his shot blocked by a smaller player). IN HINDSIGHT, people began to truly respect him as a player

Why didn't he just rig it so the Lakers made it to finals, like he did for the next 3 years?
