ESPN’s presentation of the epic College Football Playoff National Championship between Georgia and Alabama (Jan. 8 at 8 p.m.) delivered a massive 16.7 overnight on its Nielsen-rated networks (ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU) as part of its MegaCast production, up 9% from last season’s thrilling College Football Playoff National Championship on the same three Nielsen-rated networks. The ESPN-only presentation delivered a monster 16.0 overnight for the Crimson Tide’s overtime victory, up 8% from the ESPN-only presentation last season, a game which featured a dramatic, last minute touchdown to win the game.

But no one would care since it was all SEC.

For the sake of clarity, didn't they limit some of the exposure this year? Was there still a random people viewing in a lounge telecast? How about the game sounds only telecast with no announcers?
ETA - regardless, than number is big. Beating last year is pretty impressive considering it was a great game last year.

They had 10+ channels on WatchESPN showing this game in some form.

Those numbers prove Clemson was the reason why ratings were down the last two years not people being tired of Bama dominance.

Yea, the last game of the football season will totally have a drop equal to the drop over the course of the season.
Did I lay the sarcasm on heavy enough?

I thought ESPN did a really good job with all the different telecasts. They really are the king of live sports broadcasting.

Lol but muh worst rating ever

I don't think people were overly excited about a Bama-Clemson rematch last year.
Last night's game was amazing.

The second half was fun, the first half was a snooze fest
Posted on 1/9/18 at 10:17 am to RLDSC FAN
Yeah but that’s way better than the opposite. The second half delivered for sure.
Posted on 1/9/18 at 10:26 am to RLDSC FAN
Agreed... they lost viewers in the 1st half and prob did not get them back....
Posted on 1/9/18 at 10:38 am to StrongBackWeakMind
I am sure a lot of others did as well....
