Do we really believe him leaving and Jr jumping into the 5 to finish that race is what caused the move from DEI? I honestly believe they told him the ship was sinking and go get you a big gig.

I think Dale Jr wanted to drive for a contending team on his own terms. I’m 100% certain that RCR would have given him the 3 ride but he wanted to do his own thing. Hendrick was head and shoulders above everyone within the Chevy camp and that’s where he wanted to go and you couldn’t say no to the fan juggernaut of Jr Nation.

dale talked about it all on his podcast. talked about how he needed the stability and accountability that Hendricks would provide, but the main thing was the relationship he had with Rick Hendricks from his childhood. Said he gave his word to Rick as a kid that he would race for him one day (I think he may have signed a fake contract on a napkin or something) and Dale said that his word means something to him no matter how insignificant it seems. Dale also talked about the contract negotiations with Gibbs and Hendricks on the episode with his sister, funny stuff.
