William Larry Muschamp will be the next Head Coach of the University of Texas and he will take said position after Mack steps aside after the 2009 Football Season.

Even if Deloss Dodds retires soon, I find it hard to believe that MB at such a young age(despite looking older) will not want to chase more hardware, nationally and Big-12, by staying HC.
I wonder how many times I have to post this before people finally start get it. Maybe Chicken can give it a sticky or something.

The news of Muschamp being given this deal is not surprising in the least. Why? Because it has been in the works since the day that Will stepped foot on the 40 Acres. It was offered to him and accepted before the season even started (Which I have been telling people here about for months on end). They only reason it was formally announced at this point was to avoid all potential distractions to the team that "Mushcamp to __________" would bring (ala Chizik to Iowa State).

Yes, Mack is retiring after next year. He decided on it a long time ago. After the 2006 Season to be exact. He looked into the future and saw that 2009 would be his last great team (potentially even better than 2005) and marked that as his last chance to make a run at the National Championship. Even with all the rejuvenation of this season nothing has changed.

And yes, he's only 57 but his ten years at Texas might as well have been 20 or 30 because they have put such an enormous strain on him. Add to that the fact that he has always maintained that he doesn't want to coach to the age of JoePa or Bowden and you got it.

Mack is going to coach one more year after this one, step aside to let Will take over, and make his way into the AD Spot. It's that damn simple.

I hear you, but in imho, I'll believe it when I see it. 50/50!

And the longer the wait becomes, the odds dip further against.

I read that was the only reason for the lateral move as a defensive coordinator...the heir apparent.

I hope he has great success at Texas, and continues to vex the great OU program.

I'd love to be able to sit here and say that it is a lock that he is going to be a truly great coach and lead us to many Conference Championships and a few National Championships but I obviously can't do that.

What I do know is that Mack Brown, a coach who has seen it all/done it all and who is not easily impressed, was taken aback the very first practice this past Spring when Will made his presence known to not only every single Defensive Player but to every Offensive one as well. Combine that with the way Muschamp has been hitting the recruiting trail and the rapport he has already built with everyone surrounding the Texas Program (Boosters, Former Player/Coaches, Admins, etc.) and you got the handshake. Mack sees the Texas Program as his own child and he would never hand it over to someone that he felt was undeserving.

Then your opinion on this matter is worthless because not only have his wife Sally and GD admitted as much but Mack has as well.

I think it is a mistake!! IMO!!! TEXAS could get ANY coach at ANY time if they wanted!! WILL should go and see what he could do as a HEAD COACH. Make his money and just see. UT will always be there after a few years.

I hope he can handle the glare of the Eyes of Texas: expectations off the chart for that well-endowed university, which is the best university in the strongest high school football state in the country.

Football is greatest in Texas, but the athletes are greater in Florida.

He absolutely does. It doesn't look like he's gonna get one this year but then again he never planned to. This year was just suppose to be built as the moment-builder for next year and boy has it ever been.

2009 is that one last shot and, considering all the pieces we're returning, I'd say it's a pretty good one.

my stated opinion is that "football is greatest in Texas". Please advise your opinion of the state where high school football is bigger.
