Yes, I got this from Larry Leo, but I thought this bizarre situation warranted some discussion.

Evidently, in MS, classifications have two state championship playoffs - one one for good teams, and one for losers (wtf). I don't know how it works, but evidently Marshall Academy wanted to lose so they would be in the lower, easier bracket.
So, they sat their starters. Okay, not so unusual. But then they refused to run plays, taking delays each time until the refs awarded a safety to the other team. This must have been a brutal game to attend.
The association responded by suspending the coach, fining both the coach and the school, and forcing the team to travel to all playoff games.
What a dumb format, but the coach is even worse. Rest you starters and run-run-run-punt the whole game if you have to - don't make it a spectacle.

MAIS is based in Mississippi, but it is an organization comprised of small private schools from several states, including a bunch of schools in Louisiana.
It’s for schools outside of MHSAA or LHSAA. It’s where many of the LISA schools went when that organization folded.

It is the small private school league with that playoff format, not the league for all of Mississippi.

Amazing lesson for those kids.

Usually Larry is the one stealing articles from posters. How’s it feel, Larry?
