Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. It was named San Diego Stadium for a long time...then named after Jack Murphy, and otherwise anonymous sportswriter who lobbied for a long time to get the stadium built.

i live fairly close to welcome stadium and am familiar with the dayton dynamo and your post made me want to check out its wiki.

that led to me discovering that the first nfl game ever was played in dayton at triangle park, which is basically just a normal park.

nothing to do with this thread, but that was fun.

Looking at some of these names made me wonder if UF doesn’t have the longest/most awkward names for its two main facilities.

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Steve Spurrier - Florida Field

Billy Donovan Court at Exactech Arena at Stephen C O’Connell Center

To be fair, they’re called Ben Hill Griffin and the O Dome by most

Kent State’s basketball arena is called the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Goes by the MACC Center for short and it’s confusing and weird sounding since they play in the MAC.

Had the rams stayed, the new stadium was to be named "national car rental field". Sounded awful, maybe thats why Stan really left.

It went from that to Qualcomm and now SD County Credit Union. And hopefully it will be a grassy field in a few years.

The Kibbie Dome was my shite on NCAA. I'd always turn Idaho into a powerhouse.

Tony’s Pizza Event Center

Salina, Ks

Only thing it hosts that I know of is the Kansas state basketball tournament (4a maybe?)

My apologies apparently an arena football team plays there and it also hosts women’s juco National championships.

This isn't uncommon at all.

Liberty Bowl is actually Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium at Rex Dockery Field.

Ole Miss does it too. I'm sure plenty of others are the same.
