want to see my degree? guess where it's from? I actually have a legit claim to being a TExans fan...doubt that guy from Central has ever spent 5 minutes in the NE....he's a bandwagoner like tons of other folks in the past decade.

Cause it's still the first half. Better chance of making the field goal then getting that first down
That isn't true at all.

There are stats to prove it.

The percentage of making a 51 yard field goal and making a first down with the yardage they had to go at the yardline they were at are probably pretty close.

Plus, I'd take the risk of not getting 3 points if it meant I could get a first down and possibly have 7 points, or even an easier shot at 3 points.. especially when down 21-0.

Talib was a nice pickup for the Pats.

Well that's where our philosophies differ. I would've kicked. And if I missed, I'd be in the same position the texans are in now

Not being able to run the ball is killing us right now.

It's really a moot point, 0 points, 3 points, or 7 points the texans never had a chance in this game. They lost this when the schedule came out

And the percentages are probably pretty similar between making a 51 yard field goal and going for it in that situation and making the first down.

In your situation, best case scenario you have 3 points. Worst case, the Pats get the ball.

In my situation, best case scenario is we get 7 points. Another option is to get an easier 3 points. And worst case is the Pats get the ball.

You are giving too much weight to the risk side of the equation and not giving enough weight to the reward side.

So I guess teams should always go for it on 4th down

I really don't think any team in the NFL is "overrated." Obviously some are great, but it really is Every Given Sunday.

The Texans are just killing themselves right now, playing like shite

No, they shouldn't. Because the risk increases the further you have to go for a first down and also where you are at on the field.

There is a point when the risk outweighs the reward.

But in that situation, the reward was much greater than the risk, thus the Texans were right in going for it.

Defense has actually played well in the 2nd quarter.

Just wish we could have gotten a few points

Man, that was probably one of the worst first halves I've seen the Texans play in a long long time.

Well really just the first quarter.

2nd quarter was respectable.

Not scoring points at all is never good though.

4th and goal at the 3 yard line, down 14 in the second quarter. What do you do?
