That was helmet to helmet, but say he hit the receivers shoulders would it have been a penalty? If you are making a hit to stop someone from catching the ball then shouldn't they not be defenseless? What is defenseless if you as a defender are trying to dislodge the ball from the receiver?

Yea, I think the commentators are dumb. It was helmet to helmet and launching. Nothing to do with defenseless.

He didn't still have an oppourtunity to catch the ball, he had already dropped/missed it.

What if you have already leapt in the air to make your tackle, arms already raised towards the receiver prior to the ball going past you? With how quickly these dropped/tipped passes happen there is hardly any way for a defender to pull up if they are committed to making the tackle.

Do you know anyone that is still in the league? Jones played good a couple years ago and had a long road back from a neck injury. He then came back last year and the first time he touched the ball he broke a punt return and pulled up gimpy and was out the rest of the year with a leg injury.

Damn, 16 for the Bengals is a play maker. Very quick, elusive and fast cuts. Get him the ball on screens/reverses/quick passes please.
