if the players that go to college have to wait 3 years to go pro, why do they get drafted as freshman and sophomores?

Maybe bc they werent drafted out of high school. The 3 year rule is only if you get drafted and turn it down I believe.

age comes into the equation.

quote:
* High school players, if they have graduated from high school and have not yet attended college or junior college;
* College players, from four-year colleges who have either completed their junior or senior years or are at least 21 years old; and
* Junior college players, regardless of how many years of school they have completed

If they're at a 4 year school it doesn't technically have to be their junior year. Like with football, it just has to be three years. So redshirt sophomores are also eligible.

Which is why Harper was the number one pick. He left high school early (as a soph), got a GED, went to JUCO, which made him eligible.
He would actually be just finishing his junior year.
